Does anyone know when the next hiring rounds are, in general, in the Middle east for uni gigs?
Also, is it better to go to Saudi or UAW on a tourist visa and wing it? Literally show up and hope for the best?
MEd TESOL, 8 years uni experience in South Korea (5 post MEd) plus full teaching certification from State of New Hampshire USA (working there now as a sub trying to get full time)
I have been applying and no nibbles!!! HCT keeps saying no. WTF!!
Is it because I am a woman with 2 dependents and a Korean hubby? |

I think you mean the UAE, and no, arriving in country and scouting jobs won't land you a position; it's not how employers hire teachers from abroad. There's a recent thread on the UAE forum about this topic.
You missed the big recruitment period as well as TESOL Arabia a couple of months ago---things are starting to wind down. Positions with Saudi contracting companies are still being posted, but they're not ideal for a woman supporting a family of 4.

I don't know. Perhaps they want to see recent, full-time experience, or you're currently teaching kids and not adults at a university. Or they prefer applicants with Mid East experience. Who knows---all we can do is guess. |

You can give Dar Al Hekma College and Effat University in Jeddah a look to see if they have openings. They're both private, women-only institutions and are likely to be more family friendly. |
