Hello,

I need some help on my degree problem,

I am TEFL qualified and I have over 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience in London. I have a Diploma in Higher Education but no actual degree.

I've found out that I'm more likely to get a job in Egypt without a degree, how true is this ? Is there anyone who has found jobs without a degree ?
would anyone know of any specific sites where I can find no-degree-TEFL jobs ?

Any help would be really appreciated,
Thank you.

Truth be told... education to a 1st degree level is rapidly becoming the minimum requirement for a visa to work as a teacher. For that reason, most employers also require a degree for their employees.

That said, illegal work abounds but it does come with risks like not being paid and having no recourse, getting caught up in an immigration raid, being seriously underpaid, etc.

Can't give you specific information about finding TEFL jobs with no degree in Egypt. You might want to try the Egypt specific forum for more accurate advice. http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewforum.php?f=37 .

If you've got a Dip. H.E. then you only need another 120 CAT points at level 3 to get a degree. Why not just finish it off?

Since you posted on the newbie forum, could you be more specific about what you mean by "TEFL qualified" and what your five years of teaching experience entail?

It's unclear if you're considering Egypt only because you're limited as to where you can teach without a degree, but my understanding is that a degree is required for legal work there. Frankly, degree or no degree, Egypt isn't stable right now and definitely shouldn't be on any newbie's list as a country for one's first teaching job.

Ditto the others' comments about completing a degree. Over the past few years, the pool of jobs in which a degree isn't required has been shrinking as more employers and even visa regulations specify a minimum of a BA. Moreover, your competition would be other job applicants who hold both a TEFL qualification and degree.
