Word of caution from experience.
Stay away from this school.
Pay is horrible and the director is a micromanager. |

Ironically, just 7 years ago, the country became the last country in the world to end slavery, making it illegal. However, an estimated 10-20% of Mauritania's population is still enslaved while their government sits in denial (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2012/03/world/mauritania.slaverys.last.stronghold/). There's still a pervasive master-slave mentality/culture that prospective job seekers from other countries need to be clearly aware of before accepting a position in Mauritania. That is, there shouldn't be the expectation that Mauritanian employers will be "easy" to work for. |

nomad soul = You make a great point.
It is true that slavery ended there only a few years ago- but this does not mean that it does not continue.
By the way, this school happens to be owned by a Mauritanian
who is conservative and he has hired an American as the school director.
The director is a disaster = a total bully. |

I know of some friends mining phosphate in the Sahara Desert there...they say there is nothing to do there but work and look at SAND...everywhere they look there is nothing but sand..and some nomadic Tuareg riding and herding around on their humpty dumpty camels.must be quite a sandy experience....teaching English there! |
