When I read about it in a blog of another teacher, I wasn't sure if I should believe it, then one of my online students asked me that same question
"you're not a cherry boy?"
cherry boy seems to be a term for virgins and even though I was tempted -not to regale a middle schooler about tales of my sexual escapades, but to correct the term cherry boy for him-, I just feigned ignorance. |
Just tell 'em you're married. At that point, you become asexual in their eyes. |

student: "Is your wife Japanese?"
me: "Yes, she is."
student: "Do you love your wife?"
That was from an adult, and I think she was hinting that she's suspicious of the motives of foreigners who marry Japanese women. |

Me: Really? My sister's name is Erika.
S: Is she Japanese?
Me: ...... |

Or maybe she was trying to find out if you're fair game? |

A fairly common pattern:
S: Do foreigners like (Japanese band/celebrity)?
Me: I have no idea about foreigners, but I've never seen (Japanese band/celebrity) on American TV.
As if I have contacts all over the world letting me know the familiarity of the population at large with Japanese pop culture. |

Or maybe she was using "love" euphemistically?
It's because of students like her that most schools have windows in their doors. |
