Last year I used http://jobs.echinacities.com/

I am getting less results now. Where do people go to for jobs now?

I am looking for a job in the northeast of China.

is getting a little late, but since you're already here, fao's don't
gotta deal with z-visa, just transfer from within our china.

why don't YOU be proactive! schools use methods of recruitment
other than those few websites and/or recruiters.

pick the cities/towns in dongbei ya wanna work in, identify the
schools you like. check their websites, they may have an engrish
version, or may have jobs available on the chinese version. if they
do, and even if they don't, send emails with all the necessary info.
if you really really really like a school, call them.

I was looking more for comments about the lack of offers this year. Last year, I looked for positions in Beijing at the end of June 2013- August 15 (I rented from a friend so I had plenty of time to wait for an offer) I got a lot of offers in the northeast but I wanted one in Beijing last year.

It seems like it isn't late compared to last year. Perhaps it is too early now. Schools don't know who will actually re-sign for another year until July? I know for university gigs they want that finished before June, but perhaps I need to wait a month before I look for an 8,000+ job.

you're obviously not familiar with our china! schools should know by the
end of march/early april which teachers are re-signing. some contracts
(ours does) state 90 days notification prior to contract end by either party
to continue.

even in country, it takes some time to process the paperwork. gotta get
the healthy check, renew the fec, and get the new rp. rp is taking longer
this year with the new laws. coming from another school/province will
increase the time needed.....rec/rel letters, internal approvals, old fec
cancelled, and so on. remember, the fao's take the summer off. most
will be returning to their home towns by the first week of july!

let me emphasize, it's almost too late. most of the jobs are already taken,
all of the good ones shirley! if you don't hurry, sign a contract yesterday,
you'll be left with, umm, the leftovers.

Seconded with the yo bro cho bro yo.

Already June 1st--it's getting on the late side--'specially with the summer coming and no one in the FAO office being around in the summertime perhaps--that is crucial when needing to get paperwork from them to get the z-visa facilitated on your end in a timely manner.

People are already getting ready to shut down the semester and get on with their summer. In baseball terms they are rounding third and heading for home.

Warm regards,
fat_chris

Our China? I have been in China since 2010. I understand what you are saying about it seeming late, but the simple fact is I DON'T see as many offers now as I did last year in July. It's not even June now. If you are talking about a select group of job offers (university, etc...) I am not looking for those. I got a high school position in August 2013, and I also had a middle school position which I later rejected for the high school job. In addition to that I had about 10 offers in Beijing (5 middle school or high school, 2 university offers, and about 3 other which I wasn't sure of).

"it takes some time to process the paperwork."

You can usually do that within a month. I have done this 4 times already. I even went to one school (university) last year in June, stayed a week, and things fell through, so I bailed and got another one. It doesn't have to take 3 months to process the paperwork, unless that is a change for this year that I am not aware of.

"if you don't hurry, sign a contract yesterday,
you'll be left with, umm, the leftovers."

As stated I am finishing up a job here I signed in August, and being a "leftover" it pays 8,000 with very few issues. Compared to my previous jobs, this one either ranks 1st or 2nd.

I don't believe all the good jobs are taken. I simply haven't seen them advertised as much as last year.

Can someone comment on this instead of telling me I am late or to go somewhere NOT in the northeast?

Well, in my experience this year, the lack of offers out on the books may be directly related to it already being June 1st, so the comments about being late may be very relevant.

In my case I was "flirting" with three universities (two in Chengdu, Sichuan and one in Beijing) about working for them next year. They began asking me to send them a resume back in April. All three have since closed their acceptance of resumes and are done hiring for 2014-2015.

Perhaps the better jobs and high schools have done the same and shifted their hiring schedules to an earlier cycle this year? Just a thought, but nonetheless, keep lookin'.

Warm regards,

i'm sorry. i apologize. you're absolutely right.
no need to hurry. plenty of jobs out there.
you're not competing with tens of thousands
of other applicants, probably just nines of
thousands. i'm sure they're all waiting until
july or august to apply, too.
no need to contact schools directly, cause
of course, they'll find you.
it's true, in our china there is no such thing as
'last minute.'
don't worry..........happy everyday!

Ok, this is the closest to my query, now I'll simply turn it into a YES or NO question.

When you did look for a job, were there more offers than last year? YES or NO

That is what I am trying to figure out. I realize there might be less now, but compared to last year, by less, I mean in comparison.

For example, last year there might have been 200 offers in April (2013), ____ in April (2014). Now it is June, and last year there may have been 50-100 job offers at this time (June 2013).

Does it seem like there are 1-50 now (June 2014) or are you experiencing the same now?

I hope this clarifies my query.

I obviously didn't mean it that way. Try to read what I was asking about. I am looking for a job and not just waiting. I am comparing the stats this year to last year and noticed less, I wasn't comparing April with now which is also less (but for a different reason).

Seems about the same to me. I uploaded my resume to a few (just the standard) websites at the start of April using a dedicated job hunting email address and I've been inundated. Obviously interspersed with a handful of business proposals from the son of the Foreign Minister of Burkina Faso and marriage offers from Estonian-Brides.com, but I'd estimate at least 95% in there are regarding job vacancies. I've stopped reading them.

To me the quantity of offers is the same as ever, as is for the most part the quality - the majority being hideous crap. Likewise with Estonian-Brides.com it takes a lot of time sifting through the thorns to finally find that one true rose.
