| After seeing this thread I replied to the job ad in question and got a reply from a New Oriental centre coordinator. The positions offering 1,000 a week are for interns not fully qualified ESL teachers (who are paid more). |
What was their definition of an intern - someone from a non-english speaking country who is desperate to make some money? |

Because of Javelin's reply I sent another message.
Nope, the advert is CLEARLY FOR native speakers, and the offer of 1500 is purely for a qualified teacher, they even asked for 3+ years of experience, a CELTA/TOEFL, degree etc.
Sorry, I don't believe Javelin really sent that and got that reply. |

I've got the name of the center coordinator at the bottom of an email giving me basic details of the job. The email states clearly that intern positions are being paid 1,000 per week. If anyone wants the contact info I'll share by PM. Doubt anyone cares enough though. |

really? as if schools/recruiters never posted a copy-n-paste ad
that was full of errors? as if a call to the school/recruiter never
provided different info than was in the ad?
ok.....check the ad carefully.... it sez:
1. "...should interns choose to use a computer they must use their own..."
2. "Job Type: Part Time,Internship,Freelance
3. "...Interns have the opportunity to experience..."
4. "Salary Range: Negotiable"
5. "Work Experience: < 1 year to 3 years" |

So interns make 1000, qualified teachers make 1500. Sounds great! Sign me up!
But seriously. I worked at New Oriental as a second job. They paid 150 per hour, no problem. Maybe less per hour for summer deals, but I was always paid on time and I even had a good time working there.
Your whole premise strains credibility. Seriously. You say they offer experienced teachers 1000 or 1500 per week for summer camp? I don't believe you.
The ad you linked asks for college students, recent graduates, and 'aspiring ESL teachers'. They never ask for a TOEFL or CELTA.
Larsson, why are you attacking New Oriental? Maybe you're not a native speaker? Wrong passport? |

No no, I'm a white native speaker from the UK.
She even asked me for those things, AND asked for my CELTA certificate, then finally replied.
If you think I'm cheating you, well, check out the screenshot below:

It'll be a long wait, I don't join sites just to post a "screeny." I have an email from Clarissa Yang at New Oriental stating clearly that the jobs at the Xi'an Cool Camp program (the subject of the original job ad you posted and which I replied to) offering 1,000 per week are for INTERNS.
Your email from New Oriental makes no mention of the Cool Camp program and instead refers to the "Eplan program" which isn't even mentioned in the ad, part of which you superimposed over the email in your "screeny." Are you sure you even replied to the correct ad?
In any case, if New Oriental has a requirement for low paid interns to be native speakers and have a TEFL cert, that's up to them, and you can feel insulted. When they don't get any of those people applying to work for 1,000 per week, then they'll resort to plan B and take whoever walks through the door, backpackers, foreign layabouts, African students with nothing better to do all summer. In the end everybody's happy.
Last point, the ad could be better written, they don't specify two different levels of pay for what looks like basically the same work. |

Did Clarissa ask you for your degree, CELTA certificate and university degrees for 'further consideration'?
Of course she did, so you know it's BS.
Why do you CONSTANTLY defend China.
I guess there's some foreigners who consider life here so much better than back home, so you're either one of those, or a wu mao.
Boring now.
'They want to rip off a fellow teacher and push down prices, let me defend them to the death!' |

once again the WuMao raises it ugly "crewneck" cause we all know.. you have to be one or the other.....
Really are you tired of it .. it does give you an opportunity of blame it all on some unknown 5 mao maker of mayhem.....if I had a wu mao for everytime you identified someone as a wu mao I would be a "wu maollionaire" |
