Hi all,
I'm flying in to Kansai Int'l next week at 0800 and will probably not be apprehended by the forces of law and order and sent off for my political re-education until late afternoon.
Does this leave me enough time to get into Osaka and see anything and if so has anyone any recommendations as to the best, cheapest, easiest way to get into town and where to go just to get a feel of the place, stretch my legs after 12 hr flight etc. etc? And is there a left luggage at the airport?
thx,

You can take the JR or the Nankai Express trains which will take you into Osaka in about 40 minutes. The Nankai Rapito Super Express from the airport takes 30 minutes but you have to pay a 500 yen surcharge on the normal fare. (total of about 1400 yen)
Plenty to see but it depends on what you are into- a walk down the Shopping mall in Namba, which is one of the longest shopping streets in Japan. The area are Shinsaibashi is quite interesting too (Amerikamura) with lots of boutiques and restaurants. Umeda or northern Osaka has a large underground shopping mall, easily accessible by subway. If you have a few hours you can walk around the park at Osaka castle (a
Look for New Japan in Shinsaibashi and get a sauna and massage.
I imagine you should be able to leave your luggage at the airport- check with the information desk when you arrive. |

Yes there is definitely a luggage check. You can leave your bags at the counter and I think you pay by the hour or day. I forget which floor it's on but check the information maps that they have posted around. They include English names. Probably it is near the departure lounges.
Just found this link. Scroll down to "Baggage storage" section.

Knowing you're headed to Kochi, enjoy the English-speaking staff at Kansai because it will be last time you'll hear English spoken by anyone in an official capacity. It'll be the last time you'll see English signs too. |
