I wouldn't say they are equivalent. They are for two different things (primarily subject vs. language teaching and children vs. adults).
QTS = Qualified teacher status.
You should have QTS to teach children in state schools. Different countries have different requirements as to what entails QTS. In the UK it usually means passing a PGCE course AND an initial year in a school. You are trained as a subject teacher e.g. maths, history, geography, biology or primary school teacher. Once you have QTS however, I believe it is up to the school employing you as to what you teach. For example you could have got a PGCE in History, but a school asks you to teach Geography. It's unusual but I've seen it done. QTS allows this. Additionally, it is possible to get a PGCE which specialises in TESOL.
Where as MA + DELTA is solely for language teaching (I'm assuming the MA is in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a similar field - some 'international' schools will allow you to teach a subject class if your MA is in the relevant field). The MA + DELTA doesn't limit you to university teaching, you could teach children with it depending on what the employer is looking for in a teacher. |
