I was interviewed for a teaching position with GIZ/FESTO in Al Rass. They sent me an e-mail telling me I interviewed well and they would send me a contract most probably within the week. It has been a little more than two weeks and I haven't heard anything from them. I've written them a few times and I still haven't heard anything.

Is anybody else waiting to be sent a contract from them? Am I wasting my time?

this sounds absolutely typical for an application for a job in Saudi. Not to say that they are not completely incompetent but almost every application takes forever no matter who you apply with. The length of time it takes for them to respond is not necessarily any indication of what they're like to work for.

You've done all you can by contacting them and posting here. So, sit tight, either they will get back to you eventually and all will be well or they won't and... well... all will be well. Wink

Do you want to go to Al Rass ? In QASSIM ? Maybe the delay is a message from On High ? Divine Intervention ?

Thanks for the insights. Perhaps it was divine intervention. I understand that this is typical in Saudi Arabia but the utter lack of communication--after sending an acceptance e-mail-- from both the interviewer (western) and the project manager is unprofessional at best.

Keep in mind this is peak hiring season for universities, institutes, schools, and contracting companies throughout all of Saudi Arabia. Plus, Ramadan is less than a week away; reduced operating hours mean longer processing times. Delays are to be expected.

The latest news from a colleague of mine is that another guy has started interviewing candidates for this position in Al Rass. The Head that interviewed us who have applied hasn't responded to emails or skype messages in 4 weeks now.

Who knows what is going on there now....and why would they be doing brand new interviews for candidates without notifying the already hired candidates about the next steps that should be taken?

Nothing but usual here. There is widespread unaccountability in nearly all hiring so this probably has nothing at all to do with you. Likely, lots of people need to sign off on you, and leaving this till a later time translates into their idea of demonstrating they have power. Of course, it could be that they've simply lost everything associated with your application.

Or there's the other take on it: they're assiduously poring over so many applications of reasonably versus highly qualified people that it's taking unheard of time. Therefore, if you're chosen you too will be empowered to come to this forum and talk about how most everyone is lacking qualifications comparatively. and how where most other folks are only numbers, you yourself are some kind of very significant number.

All kidding aside, everything takes such a long time here.
