Ramadan is to be the holy month of fasting, reflection, prayer and compassion.
Christmas Day is to be a time when Christians remember, reflect and celebrate the birth of Jesus (PBUH).
Yet both Ramadan and Christmas have become a highly commercialized time of market opportunity. Both holidays are also well known as a time for exchanging gifts and wearing one’s best new clothes.

| Is it safe to say that I can expect the banks to slow down, or not even open, considering how lazy the dudes there already are, but now they won't show up to work in the morning because they've been out eating all night? Also, I am just getting over the worst flu in my life. I will drink water when necessary for health reasons. I don't care what anyone tells me. I just don't. |

It's only a problem if you partake in front of your Muslim colleagues. Just be discreet about it---simply find an empty office or classroom (out of view of others) to drink your water or eat.
Exclusive of prayer times, during Ramadan:
- Supermarkets are generally open from 10:00am to 2:00am.
- Banks are generally open from 9:00am - 3:30pm. Check with your specific bank, however.

| The new day does not start at midnight but at sunset ! In the classical world of Greece and Rome it was the same. The idea of starting the new day at 24.00 hours has not caught in with the Saracens and Moors ! |

Banks are open mid-morning for a few hours. You can always use an ATM. I know that many insist on making a monthly remittance when salary is paid. For some a necessity to support families. For others a ritual reminder of why they came to the Magic Kingdom.
Blessed are those who have no need to make that monthly transfer, who can wait and send off a big chunk in one transaction. |

| Ramadan is always a pleasure. I had to try to sneak coffee out of the coffee machine the best I could this morning with as few people seeing me carrying it to the lounge. They usually have instant in the lounge, but that of course was conveniently removed along with the hot water as a helpful reminder that it is Ramadan. |

And there is always going to be apologists like you who think that in this case and worse, superstition and intolerance is right just because it's their country. |
