| Are they using the term "middle school" differently than we use it in the States? There is a lot of mention of ACT, etc.. |

May very well be. They do have middle school which is usually three years, but sometimes four. The term as they use it may be high school. Come to think of it, I think my first high school translated out to middle school but a bit hazy for memory now. Maybe someone can add to this.
Chinese throw the terms for their schools around quite liberally to try to add prestige. "Number 1" and "International" being the most abused. You are often the only thing "International" in a school, besides the headmaster's bribe bought BMW.
