Is anyone here a member of InterNations? What can you tell me about your experiences with it? I have become a Basic Member (that's free). Is it worthwhile to upgrade to their "Albatross" level of membership (paid)? |

I joined in Oman a few years ago. Went a couple of times and realized it was all networkers. No interest to me. It's only worth upgrading if you intend to go to virtually every event. |

You mean business networkers, people trying to sell goods or services? There are sub-groups based around that, but the majority of the "Activity Groups" appear to be topic-based. Or do yuou just mean "networkers" as a personality type? |

I was referring to the big once a month or so social event. Most of the members seemed more interested in finding a better job than having a good time. I think the one I joined did attract the personality type who see everybody as a potential resource and as soon as they realize that you're not they float off. |

I've been mulling upgrading to the Albatross level for some time now. I've been to two events this past year and enjoyed meeting some great people there.
But, I am most certainly one of the networker types and less interested in the social aspect of gatherings.
On a different note, there are some interesting facebook groups that gather regularly in DF. Look up Americans in DF, English Teachers in DF, Foreigners in DF (among others). |

I went to a inter nations event recently and made some good connections. It's worth going to a at least one event. |

I just got an email from Internations that was automatically generated because I hadn’t visited the site in a long time. I took another look to see why I don’t hang out there. It’s mostly evening and night parties in the centre of the city. Since I live in the far outer reaches, the idea of straggling home after midnight doesn’t appeal, besides which I am late middle-aged and don’t do well in noisy environments. My impression is that Internations would be a good meeting place for young and young-at-heart people who like to party. Not for me. |
