Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale ...
We get paid on the 27th of the month. I was not paid in June. That would include one month salary plus a bonus. The school has been well aware of this since July 1, but they keep delaying. This past Tuesday I brought them a copy of my bank records to show I was not paid.
They say the bank made a mistake. They say their accountant is talking with the bank and they will resolve it before the end of the month (July), but I leave August 6th for another position/school far far away. Maybe the bank did err, but does it take 3 weeks to resolve this?
So should I go to the PSB? Wait? Now they say they will pay me by the end of July, but that is a few days before I go.
Go to the PSB? Tell them I'm going to the PSB? Anyone else had a similar situation? I've never been stiffed and I think it does not take two or three weeks to resolve something like a bank error.
what do you think? |

I dont know how the banks work in china but that does seem very long for any type of bank error. Sorry to hear this. |

Go to the City FAO. That's who you'll probably end up talking to. The City FAO is usually in the same building as the PSB. |

Thanks y'all. It's unanimous. I'll go see the city FAO Monday. Seems there's no point in telling the school.
I'll update here and hope it's good news. I never thought this would happen to me. Famous 'last words'.
When I speak to the director by text message, she repeatedly tells me 'by the end of July', but obviously if I wait until the end of July then I have no time to complain. |

In this kind of situation, the phone or text message isn't enough. You need to camp outside someone's office and wait for them. Talk to them, politely but firmly, and express how important it is to you that you get your end of contract bonus or whatever. I've been through this once myself, and persistence paid off. |

Ever used the ATM to transfer cash to someone's account?
Or online?
This whole 'it's a bank mistake' is a joke. When I go to pay rent it takes me 10 minutes, including walking to the bank, putting in card, waiting, typing in account number etc.
If they REALLY wanted you paid it'd be done in 10 minutes by an 'accountant' with a stack of cash. |

What becomes of the person pulling a stunt like this? Nothing? If the FT had owed money, would the employer wait by his door to chat and be polite but firm? Or would there be serious problems as a result?
I've had one problem with a bank ATM. The main branch was a bit far, but they did not play games. They took care of it.
If the school say it's the bank, why not go to the bank and have a clerk speak to someone at your school? Did the school have proof the money was sent?
Ultimately, the suggestions to go to the FAO are best. The few times I've ever heard anyone talk about a delay of payment or that the money was sent? It was a delay tactic. A lie. |

I offered an alternative that worked for me. Text messages and phone calls don't always work because they're too easy to ignore. I showed up, talked to the person who owed me the money, I was reasonable and didn't go screaming like a madman and making threats, and yes, I got the money. If being polite and firm didn't work then I would have taken the next step, but I didn't see any need to escalate further. I don't know if you've ever been to China but there's no "one size fits all" solution for some of these problems. As for what the school would do if I owed them money, I don't know and I don't care as it's not something that's ever likely to happen. |

Again, thanks to all. The 'camping out in the director's office' route makes good sense, but I am not certain where they are when, and of course the office is at the school with guards at the gate. They wouldn't even let me in, or, most likely say they are not at the school if I did pay a visit. I don't want to spin my wheels any longer and I don't have time to waste.
I think the PSB is my only and best bet.
I now recall a previous bank mistake with another school. It was resolved in two hours. This runaround is unacceptable. Funny how they paid me for 9 months but now there is a seemingly insurmountable problem, and of course it's the bank's fault.
That's a good suggestion, ask my bank if there were attempts to deposit to my account, but I'm focused on the PSB route.
And we'll have fun fun fun till her daddy takes the T-bird away.

Go to the PSB? hahaa, that's a good one.
What jurisdiction, authority, or care do you really think they have?
I laughed for 3 minutes, literally. |

My advice, on Monday go to the bank with a Chinese friend.
Explain to them that you get paid on the 27th of each month and ask where is the money/was an attempt to deposit money made.
Depending on what the outcome of that will effect your next move, likely head to the City FAO.
Good luck and keep us posted! |

Adding to what Mandrews posted...
Get proof of what the bank clerk says, i.e. that there has been no attempt to deposit money from the school account into yours and that the bank is not at fault. Ideally get it written up and chopped by the bank, however I very much doubt that would happen. Else, ask the Chinese friend to confirm to the FAO in person or over the phone that s/he heard the bank staff state all that. Or else ask the friend to write it out? |

Again thanks to all and Mandrews & Piper. Now I have a proper plan.
All you guys rock. Besides IWTFanAT. I'm grateful to at least add a little laughter to your day, IWT.
Cheers
