Does any one know the law, or have a link about the rentry into Japan. I have a five year visa and was thinking about spending 18 months or so outside of the country. Has any one done this, or know anyone who has? Thanks in advance. |

What kind of visa do you have? For most visas, if you return to Japan within a year you don't need a re-entry permit at all. Make sure you declare this at immigration when you leave so you can get the 'Special Re-entry' stamp. If you are sure you'll be gone longer than a year, get either a single entry or multiple entry re-entry permit at the immigration office before leaving.
I have a permanent residency permit and I'm leaving the country this week on a multiple entry visa. Not sure when or how many times I'll be back. Eventually I'll become in danger of losing my status if I don't actually live here for a year or so within the five years I have on my re-entry permit but oh well cookies crumble.
I'm almost positive the five year visa you have will not be extended 18 months for the time you'll be away. |
