The address range 192.168..0.0. is normally used for internal networks.
The subnet mask is strange since it is saying there can only be one possible address in the whole network.
Whatever it is that IP address is definitely not the IP address you are connecting to the outside world with. |

You and I must both be the same person.

Do we have to be? |

xxxxxxxxxx is correct according to a Sygate scan I just did. I'm using Moz 1.7 but have it spoofed as IE6.
The IP info I posted previously was what I got from IPCONFIG, and I'm still getting it. I'm on ISDN. Oh well, no matter. I have three different ISP's anyway. Wierd stuff happens when I use this one (like I have ports that are always open even though I block them with a software firewall), so I suspect that the guy doesn't have everything set up correctly.
So all of this proves that Smurf and I are the same person. I mean, we *must* be. How else would he have known what my IP was?
(How'd you do that, Smurf?)

That's my IP information!
How's that possible? BD, CS and I are all the same person? Do you suppose?

He's got a URL embedded in his post. You can't really see my ISP info. You can see only yours, and I can see only mine. When your browser sends for the image, it has to send along your true IP and other information. Then the image displays it.

Pretty cool, Smurf!

I read the privacy policy, and found this:
Quote: |
Signature Graphic: Some users on Internet web sites link to our signature graphic. When a person views the signature graphic, they see their own IP address and other information only. It is not possible for your information to be viewed by others, as your IP address and other information are dynamically added to the graphic which is shown to you and to you alone when your web browser loads the signature graphic for our web server. The purpose of the graphic is to raise awareness about what types of information every Internet collects about you. |
That was after, though.

Hoo boy,... 1.3 billion Chinese, but nearly 300 million Yanks, and seemingly a lot of us have multiple personalities! (Apologies for Yankee-izing any non-Americans in this thread!)
On a more 'interesting' note, since that's apparently the theme of this topic, (ignoring why the idea of a single person having two names is even an issue), it would seem that if Smurf is from the State Department and not located in [country removed], he and Bindair are unlikely to be the same person. Or, er,.. he flies really damn frequently and fast, or uses proxies elsewhere in the world.
... But that's what I wanted to get at: proxies. For those of you unaware, your computer has an IP address that is most often assigned via your ISP, be this a company, school, whatever. IP itself stands for 'Internet Protocol', and along with something called TCP is pretty much what enables all these computers on the 'net to talk to each other.
So why should you care? Well, if you're paranoid (or merely private), you might want to look into anonymizing proxies. Backing up, as we've just seen, someone can use a web-graphic -for example, an avatar here in the forum- on a webpage they control and find out where (in a general sense) people are located. An anonymizer is software that is located in one place, say, Finland, but reroutes connections from anywhere else THROUGH it's network, so all traffic seems to come from that very location in Finland.
For instance, let's say I'm located in Maryland, but I don't want Smurf to know that, I can use a proxy in Arizona, and should he really care to track my connections, he'd seem to think I'm connecting from Arizona. (Not picking on the Smurf, and see no reason why he'd want to, but hey, I had to use someone.)
Anyway, that's a very simplistic view of stuff, but it's useful if the sort of stuff like suddenly seeing your IP address show up in a forum startles you. If anyone is curious, private message me and I'll show up at your door with more details. (I'm kidding!)
Cheers,

Spooky, though I was a bit more irritated at the thought that someone would maliciously post such a thing, as Smurf and I seem to have been going round and round with misunderstandings lately. I was thinking "That's it! You've gone too far!'
Ha, ha, very funny.
Anonymizers, huh? |

Has anyone thought of the fact that he MAY have a split personality and changes his username when he changes his mood?
