I'm looking to teach, but rather than lean on a certificate, I've got a JD and an MS... I'm hoping to aim at a higher-income target population who needed legal or technical English. If not, that's fine... but is there any awareness here of which employers might be interested in such a thing? I know that 3M handles such things internally.

Your 'JD and MS': are they relevant to teaching English as a foreign language? If they are not, then you really should think of 'leaning' on a certificate. You would be surprised to know what you don't know about the English language if you haven't had to study it in earnest. Also, teaching a language is not the same as teaching other subjects, so there skills to learn and practical experience to gain.

Sure, I see your point that you think (I think) that you will get a gig with people who already have a really high level of English and you would be a specialist in giving them more vocabulary, but I think you will find that the levels of language ability of your students will rather vary and that you will find yourself having to really teach. Also, the companies who would take you on initially would almost certainly prefer the professional who has gone and picked up a teaching qualification and even better, has actually taught some general English for a while as well.

Forgive me if I am mistaken about your qualifications. I'm basing it on what you have written.
