There's a bunch out there.

I hesitate to mention any names but if you check out job postings on this site they will probably mention if they are foreign managed.

You'll have to do a bit of digging yourself on this one.

There was one called Kenneth's in Jilin, but I remember reading that the foreign owner is back in the US and has nothing to do with its operation now.

Please explain Bud... Why can't a foreigner own and operate their own business, school, or agency in China? I know both a restaurant and a HR company owned solely by foreigners and they manage their businesses - one for almost 10 years now. Another guy named Josh owns his own English School for Christian kids in Haidian (Beijing).

Foreign owned is extremely difficult, I seem to remember reading that pretty much any business at least needs a Chinese partner to be legal.

I'm not sure if this is true or up-to-date but it sounds like one of those things that would be a regulation.

People need to fact check before they post here. China corporate structures provide an option for WOFE or "Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise".

The suggestion that there is a law requiring you to have a Chinese partner to do business in China is rubbish. THERE IS NO SUCH LAW NOR REQUIREMENT. Foreigners who can meet all the legal requirements of China's commercial laws are allowed and encouraged to own and operate businesses in China. Having said that however, I will go on to say that if your business becomes too successful, some scheming low-life Chinese may pay off some official to ensure that your next visa does not get approved and move into to steal your business. Thus if you do decide to go into business in China, do so only after you have acquired permanent residence to be extra safe and secure. Marrying a local gives you further protection from such predators.

Name one school that's wholly foreign-owned.

Isn't Giraffe English entirely Taiwanese owned? Or do they just franchise out to mainland?

Muffy's Kindergarten chain was wholly owned by a Canadian (John) for a few years before he sold off to a Chinese company. American Christian English in Haidian is owned soley by a guy from Pennsylvania, New York Minute English is owned 100% by an American. There are many bars and restaurants owned by foreigners as well. The point I was making is THAT THERE IS NO LAW LIKE BUD SUGGESTED STATING THAT FOREIGNERS MUST HAVE A CHINESE PARTNER. IF THERE IS A CHINESE PARTNER INVOLVED IT IS NOT COMPELLED BY LAW, BUT IS PROBABLY A MATTER OF NEED, CONVENIENCE, OR EXTORTION.
