The cinema in Qatar was, for me, a splendid place to go.

At times, they would show films which no-one else wanted to see, so there would be two or three people in the entire auditorium.

I saw The gods must be crazy (advertised as The world must be crazy), all the Jaws films, and best of all, The man who fell to Earth).

There are nice cinemas now at Landmark, the Mall and City Center. There was a grungy place called the Gulf Cinema which had hindi films and was full of bachelor indian workers..... prolly the reason nobody else wanted to go to the cinema. However, things have changed, and when a new highly advertised movie comes out, you have to make reservations in advance or you won't be able to get a ticket. Passion of Christ was sold out for the first week..... Things have changed since some of you were here.

It is difficult to watch films in Qatar though-because you can't hear the film due to all the mobile phones going off and being answered

why would you pay 30 qr to go to the cinema and sit amongst the various noises of mobiles ringing, bleeps bleeping, teeth crunching and idiot savants yabbering...
this starts approx 5 mins before the film and continues unabated until the end credits start rolling.
Added to the retards who swagger in late up to 45 mins after the film has started and those who just can't handle 2 hrs concentration and leave from approx 15 mins into the film up to the end it makes for an experience i rank alongside getting locked in a lav with Gary Glitter for an afternoon.!!!!
Besides they don't show films in Qatar...generally with the exception of harry potter and mel gibbo's flawed masterpiece..they show DVD's..........now i'd rather watch a film uninterrupted by noise and at the fraction of the price at home in the comfort of my apartment..
whoever it is that gained enjoyment from visiting Qatari cinemas has obviously been in the Gulf far too long and should start making arrangements to move elsewhere before they end up eating the flowers in the Oasis lobby or throwing dogs into the swimming pool...!!!

The secret is to go to one of the early performances when there is a minute audience !

I've never been to the Cinema, so I wouldn't know. However, if their behaviour during the movie is anything like the way they park outside the cinema, it must be chaos! I prefer a 63 inch screen in the basement with surround sound.......I think scot47's advice was good. The freaks do come out at night.

I went on Saturday at 11.30 and enjoyed Troy - I actually remembered the storyline from my classicasl education all these years ago.

I suggest the cinema in the City Centre Shopping Mall. Nice - when there are small audiences.

As for the Oasis Hotel, I hear that the bars there are frequented by the real heavy boozers. Perhaps "boy wonder" is one of them ?
