Another question if I may.

Were you allowed to collect your belongings and did they take your money from your pocket or bank account?

The main point of the briefing was that we (The other American and myself) both had already finished our sentence(s) and that we would be released as soon as the airplane tickets back to the US were organized. She then collected phone numbers of family members/friends who we thought would be willing to pay for a plane ticket...

My guess is that OP didn't have the cash, and relatives were contacted, as per above. Those relatives and/or friends then gave their money to the embassy, who then organised the ticket, or at least the handing of ticket over after payment. Could be wrong.

likwid,

Yes, you are correct. My friend's wife purchased the ticket on my behalf after the embassy let them know exactly which pitfalls I had tumbled into while 'living it up' in Beijing...

By the way, I actually had enough money in my local bank account to buy the return ticket, however I was not given this option by the embassy; but, in the end, as I would have had to 'buy the ticket at the airport' ($$$) and was unsure even if I still had money in my account, this method was more than likely the best...

You can mince words all you want. I never misquoted anyone. You said he knew for a fact and he said he could confirm. I am not sure how this can be true. To put it bluntly, it is a lie. He only knows what you told him, and that is if their is a him.

I am not missing anything, failed documentation means not legal to work = working illegally. You blame the school I get it, and obviously not an organized organization, but the pains of keeping this story up.

If I wanted to be a rocket scientist I would not be here teaching, and I would have majored in engineering. Almost went into the nuclear engineering field, but gave it a pass. If you are trying to call me stupid, well, I am not asking people to believe this or disbelieve this, I am just skeptical. You want people to jump through hoops to believe your story, that is pretty presumptuous.

Finally, my father really has nothing to do with this, can't really as he has been dead for 14 years, and I am sorry for bringing it up. As far as me being unwilling to entertain new ideas, no I do not ask them over for dinner. I am, however, open to new lines of reasoning if they are reasonable.

Wang,

I am sorry to hear that your father passed away. I apologize if I misspoke...
Let's just let this matter drop. I wish you well in the future and good luck in your classes this semester...
