In which case leave them to their woes and the sand and get on with your lives. Really who cares, especially as the (whole) of the Arab world is going up in smoke anyway!

The smell of blood and money is stronger than education, morality and ethics! People have never mattered!

Also, to add to MuscatGary's justification: for love, romance, Orient Traum, adventure, escape.

Dr a.anas, I deem your case as noble and courageous as it is well known in the West, in its only religion, that the truth and justice have only but one place: the cross, the tool of torture. All Christians see it every time they go to church, located on every altar - equivalent of the Muslim Kiblah - across the western world. Therefore I deem your case noble. And for your consideration too.

Get real. People work in the ME for one reason and one reason only; MONEY. Everybody knows it's broken and everybody knows it will not be fixed before the oil runs out. Once the oil goes the money goes and so does the pretence of an educational system and the ex-pat teachers. Everybody has their own limits, for me it was seeing a student who cannot speak, let alone write in, English at all. being allowed to graduate with a B.Ed. in English and therefore qualified to teach English in the state system. I should have left sooner but prostituted myself for the money. The old ME saying of keep quiet and bank the money is the norm but some need the old chestnuts I quoted to diminish the cognitive dissonance they experience of trying to reconcile a belief that they are a professional teacher with the knowledge that no real professional would work in such a situation.

Thanks for stating the glaringly obvious, which requires enormous conscious effort to ignore.

I am working with some students to do something about this fake institution. The article I posted here is for teachers and others who want to get a sense of what UOB is really like as an objective reality rather than a subjective perception.

I will continue to help the students to effect some changes and to hold the people behind this charade accountable. I will let go once the students let go because at that point, there is not much I can do apart from warning prospective teachers with such an expose.
