To paraphrase a quote, I would never accept a position with a company whose standards are low enough to hire someone like me Wink

i remember at nova there was this fat trainer and he had the airconditioning on at 16 degrees ok he was Canadian so its kind of reasonable. But we were all freezing during the kids training , so I put on my jacket. He went bat shit crazy and screamed at me in front of everyone “take your fucking jacket off you look like a fing moron“ we all just stared at him gobsmacked and probably thought this guy is on the edge. ahh the good old days at nova, so I guess if you make one or two faux pas in a row and your trainer is a whack job there are chances to be fired. Luckily I have moved on from those days and have actually started a new job in esl since easter where I make about 15 million yen equivalent and I kind of have nova to thank for that. If nova wasnt such a bad employer it would have never spurred me on to look for bigger and better things. I never again wanted to have a n idiot manager or someone to report to. Now all my colleagues are professionals, but funnily enough I miss whack job alt and eikaiwa freaks. I miss the gaijin bars and getting drunk and chasing skanky girls at the hub and the stupid stuff wed talk about nova voice and 7a b c students. I wish I could have my job conditions but the nova co workers.

Perhaps your eikaiwa doesn't have a massive turnover rate. My case was extreme, but many places seem to have basement level standards.
Oh well, yeah they'd probably fire for that too...if it's consistent. The other teachers would just have extra work until a replacement is found.

We get evaluated too to determine whether or not we're up to scratch and the type of contract we get. Six months or either a year. I have another 6 month contract because I sucked at my evaluation and actually went down for the adult lesson from before (which was nearly perfect) and went down in some aspects with kids and up but it wasn't good enough for a year renewal.

I let my apathy get in the way.

Wish they would just evaluate the same classes as opposed to changing it up since not all lessons will be the same because of the actual students involved, especially kids who come in tired.

I see Mateacher is still here too, gloating to everyone about his salary as usual.

How many times have you told everyone your salary now? I thought it was ten million last time you mentioned it.

Quote:
sorry you are all jealous and dont believe my salary. If you had read closely it said an equivalent of 10 million yen. I work at a university and I get free rent for a 3 bedroom and utilities. I also get healthcare. Sometimes during the 5 months off I teach some summer or winter sessions for overtime pay. Due to the lower deductions in Korea, my total salary works out to about 10 million yen equivalent.

Congratulations on the 5 million yen pay rise!

The message I quoted in my previous message is dated May 25...WHOOPSIE!

Anyway, I believe you, just wish you'd stop banging on about it. Every post you make is either a boastful post about your salary or a condescending one about the salaries in Japan. It's bad form.

Now, THAT's what I calls "real" friends! You must be lonely. Ivory towers are cramped places, I hear...

This is a big deal. The company says that a worker is on the clock for forty hours. Then they provide a 9 hour day of work, with one hour for a break. Then they say that you have to clean after that 40 hours of work, for fifteen minutes a day, every day, without putting that on the schedule.

Either someone works for more than forty hours at AEON, so the company should not put this on their website, or the company expects its teachers to clean for free. These are the two choices.

rslrunner,

I'm happy you continue to post here about this.

These greasy eikaiwa companies are abusive and dirty. Post away!

I do not recommend people getting involved with companies like AEON, NOVA or Berlitz or the bankrupt GEOS. They are abusive companies and cheat both their customers and their staff.

rslrunner, good for you for keeping this at the top of the page!
