Just wondering, i applied for a job at the Milner school of English in Perth. Wanted to know if anyone knew of this school and their experiences. They pay around 3200 aus dollars a month, is that good for australia? Is it cheap to live there? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Take care. |

Hi, I haven't worked for Milner but have never heard anything bad, so you should be fine. There are about 15 esl schools in Perth. It's an easy place to live in (cheaper than Sydney). Your rent will be around $100/week for a decent sharehouse which will be easy to find thru the newspaper. Groceries between $50-$100/week depending what you eat (most cafes have a 'special night' $10 for pizza/pasta). $3200/month sounds a bit optimistic, it may be the 'before tax' figure? Most full time teachers get between $30-$40/hr depending on experience, qualifications etc, and end up with about $2000/month for approx 25 hrs teaching a week (hope that maths works out). Students in Perth are predominately Japanese & Korean, also Swiss, Thai, Chinese, Brazilian, Slovakian ... I'm sure there's more. Perth is a nice city with good beaches & nature spots close by (Rottnest Island, Margaret River etc) and nightclubs, cafes etc.. if you're used to big cities you might find it a little small but it depends what you like to do I guess! Hope this helps & good luck. |
