Has anyone taken this test? If so can you describe how difficult or easy it was?

Thanks,

Gazoo

It's easy, they'll also make you do a demo lesson.

For those of you working here now:

Do they really fire people for no reason as people on this site often mention? Is it all that bad working here?

Thanks,

Gazoo

You must be ready to be given the sack anytime...turnover is extremely high...they are always advertising for EFL teachers and the pay is peanuts for Kuwait . However if you are an EFL backpacker in the Middle East this may be the perfect job for you!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

It's terrible. The accommodation is a dump in the middle of nowhere and Kuwait itself is a dump. Worst place I ever worked, worse country I ever visited.

Can you give me an example of some of the grammar questions they asked you?

It's a few years ago since I was there so can't remember, it's a written test. Trust me it's easy, if you can't pass it then you shouldn't be teaching English.

The reality is they hired s lot of unqualified native speaking EFL backpackers in the past mainly from SE Asia who couldn't teach English and that is why this so called "Grammar Test" was created. Simply put these EFL backpackers were cheap to hire...a native speaker with a western looking face..or aka a warm body to put in the classroom who was willing to work for the lowest salary possible in Kuwait teaching English to arrogant and lazy students who could really care less about learning the language. Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

If memory serves me right, the so called "grammar test" is nothing to get worked up about. However, the Egyptian Mafia running the operation take perverse pride in humiliating English speakers on the silliest pretexts, and grammar is one of their favourites. The generals grew up on grammar to the point of obsession, often overlooking the usual exceptions to the rule. And this is pretty much all they know about the language. As for the lesson demo, be prepared for some nasty heckling. These guys live to make your life as miserable as possible. And blue ballpoint ink is the only kind allowed. You are not allowed to go over the lines in the lesson plan templates. If you do, be prepared to get chewed out by Mad Cow Mia or Dr. Psycho Abdullah!

I second that. I've never taught in Saudi, and I never will, but the MOD is no doubt one of the worst employers in TESOL. It's hall-of-fame nastiness there. I also found Kuwait to be one of the dumpiest places to work. Laos is nicer, although it's much poorer.

I realise this was a while ago, I was emailed about this place, I'd not even applied, lol. I 'd applied to somewhere in Saudi. I out of the blue get an email saying they want to hire me here for a few months, "on probabtion". and were emailing me left and write asking if I'd done the police security, etc. I told them I was not interested at all. They then sent me pics of the accommodation to try to persuade me I guess. it made me want to stay clear even more though!
As they say, if it seems to good to be true, or to be bad, then it prob is. Laughing

I just got hired to teach at the DLS at Subhan
I wasn't told of any test.
Will I be taking it when I get to Texas for training or when I arrive in Kuwait?
