I'm interested in teaching in China for a period of 4-6 months, as I am unable to commit to a full year at this stage. I've been keeping an eye on the job board, and occasionally I see ads offering short term contracts. There was a recent 5 month job in Chengdu which looked very appealing.
However, I was informed by a reputable teacher placement agency that it's unlikely that I'd be able to find a short term contract where they provide a Z class Working Visa because it wouldn't be financially feasible for the school. This agency stated that schools that offer placements for less than a year typically intend for their teachers to come over on a Business visa, a Tourist or a Student visa.
I would not consider going to China on anything less than a full Z class Working Visa. Is there any hope of me finding a short term contract? I'd appreciate it if anyone could refer me to reputable schools or agencies that might offer this.
Some info about me: native English speaker from South Africa; 4-year university degree; TEFL certified; 8 years experience teaching 1-to-1 to adults. |

I am not a China expert...
But from what I have read, getting a Z visa on anything less than a 6 month contract isn't usually possible.
I am going to China on a 9 month contract (with a Z Visa). So, less than a year is possible, at least in my case. |
