Greetings all,

I've just turned 40 after a year back home and have comfortably come to terms with the fact that I will be teaching English for the rest of my life. (8 years experience in the ME)

Additionally, the recent threads on the MA/DELTA question were interesting, but it wasn't too large a question in my mind since many friends speak of the DELTA as a form of masochism and it's use in the ME not quite as useful as the MA.

My question, which is the question I am asking is: which is the cheapest, fastest, but still fully recognized MA TESOL/TEFL?

2 years in a Western country is not possible, so blended is best? What about only online? Where can I find good info on MA TESOLs?

Also, what about an MA in Education???? Would that open more doors or close more doors?

If you have set your sights on the ME do not do an online degree. For an onsite degree Sheffield could be okay. Cheap place to live ! Uni (was it Sheffield Hallam) had a good reputation in Teflology if you believe in that sort of thing.

How about the Fellowship at the American University in Cairo? You teach to pay off the tuition.

I did this back in the 80's and you could be done in two years with a free MA. Right now people are not clamoring to live in Egypt, but the campus is now away from Tahrir Square, so far from any of the dangerous demonstrations.

What about distance degrees? Those should be acceptable right, I don't think they are considered to be online or are they?

Thanks very much VS, that's an option I had never thought of. I'm off to Egypt for the Eid holiday and was thinking about going there after this current Saudi stint. I wonder how widely recognized that MA would be.

I have heard all the discussion about online MAs and am considering a blended MA but the thing is that although Saudi doesn't recognize them you're not held back from getting jobs here even when you only have a BA, so having an MA online would be helpful nonetheless in getting the better positions I figure since it makes you more attractive than candidates without one. Importantly for me also is that Oman (my favorite place) does accept these degrees. So why not just do an online degree? I'm not interested in UAE since life is so much better in Oman and salaries are so much better in Saudi.

While in Cairo, learn to speak Arabic with an Egyptian accent and you can guarantee that no one in the Arab World will ever take you seriously.
