HAVE YOU SEEN THE SALARIES THAT THEY ARE NOW OFFERING FOR JOBS IN KSA.....

SALARIES FOR MOST JOBS HAVE BEEN SLASHED.

BENEFITS ARE ERRODING AWAY.

I got two offers to work in Saudi...

Both within the range of 35K to 45K a year.

I didn't even bother to respond.

WHY GO IN LIVE IN A HOSTILE (DUE TO TRAFFIC MOSTLY) ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCH A LOW SALARY???

35K to 45K a year...Really?...Go S** Off

NO IQAMA OR A LENGTHY WAIT..... AGAIN FOR 35k TO 45k A YEAR....Really?

Without even mentioning the very likely potential for low job satisfaction...it just isn't worth it anymore.

They will continue to have numerous jobs unfilled because of such low salaries and also due to their lack of benefits.
If they do fill some spots, it will be with recent college grads or with drifters that are unemployable in the west.

This is a very short-sighted attempt by employers to save money...will hurt them big time in the future. As if the state of their education system wasn't bad enough already.

The only reason foreigners want to come to work and live in Saudi is for the money. Even religious pilgrims don't stay there for long.

That salary range is about right for those with non-related BAs (including recent uni grads and "drifters"); obviously, a relevant MA will get you more. But seriously, how much do you think you're worth?

Plenty of supply... I mean teachers available for chump change and the Saudis know it. The economic downturn doesn't help new TEFLers.

I have 2 related degrees....wake up and smell the coffee..this is a trend in Saudi now. LOW SALARIES and fewer benefits.

Worth more than 45K....otherwise I would have taken the job.

I woke up early this morning. I am drinking coffee.

I make more than 45 K and this is my first job in KSA. The benefits are spot on, I can't complain. A few of the people I work with, well, that's another story.

Stick to your guns in the interview. Don't settle for anything less than what you think you are worth. If you have the relevant credentials, you can get what you expect, and maybe then some. If they low ball you, ignore them. Let them sort it out, or not. What I don't understand are the people who come here with PhDs relative to this field, and take these low paying jobs...

Good for you LP....but you are the exception. Most employers are not offering the good salaries like before. This trend started just recently. Those already in KSA got in before the bubble burst. I am waiting for the big money....but afraid it just won't happen. So I won't sell myself or my services for cheap. Because I AM WORTH IT.

I'm not rich, and not banking, but I am comfortable with what I have. I am inexperienced in terms of working in the ME, but have a lot of experience in other countries, plus an MA relative to the field. I made it absolutely clear to all recruiters and direct hires from the start that I would not settle for anything less than a certain amount (which was higher than I originally expected). I must have interviewed with 15 different organizations in a matter of 3 months, before finally settling on one, which was one of only two who were interested negotiating. They don't expect you to negotiate.

One of the recruiters was from the Philippines, living here in KSA somewhere. He was honestly trying to get me to come in for 2,800 USD per month, for a job on a business visa. I told him he was tripping. Basically he would have been pocketing roughly 40% of the actual salary. He was trying to tell me he had staffed 10 PhD holders prior to the interview with me. When I requested photographs of the apartment in which I would have been living in, I was disgraced. Small, olive green apartment, one room... No thanks. I'll settle for my house and swimming pool, and car park, free health care and 60+ paid vacation days. I would not currently be where I am had I not negotiated.

LOL.

The issue of stagnant salaries isn't unique to KSA---nothing new there. Anyway, only one of your related BAs counts toward salary. If you had a relevant MA, your salary and bennies would be better; more opportunities would be open to you.

This is a matter of improving your situation yourself versus expecting others to improve the situation for you. In other words, besides bellyaching over the smell of stale, generic coffee, what are you going to do about your situation?

You have to look at the whole package and not just a salary figure. When quoting salary figures please indicate currency you are talking about. Interstellar Credits ? Klingon Ringits ?

Finish your tea. When you are done, take a look at the bottom of your cup. No doubt, tea leaves will predict the same future....

Saudi employers (it is about business afterall) are offering much less than they were even just a year ago.
If they are able to get TEflers to come over and work for these lower wages....then no reason not to believe that this will be the new reality for teaching English in KSA.
Nothing against those folks who have taken an offer for less than 50K a year....but that will only encourage businesses to continue to lower wages.
If you are there...and happy with your wage....Good on ya.
My circumstances are different than others...I dont have to go and work there for 50K...so I choose to stay in the US with my better than average paying job and complain about businesses in Saudi choosing a short sighted business objective that will hurt the quality of their already stellar education offered there.
