Hey folks just got accepted to teach in Vietnam.

What is the process for the background check?

How can I get it authenticated for the work permit if i'm not supposed to tamper with it before it gets sent to my employer?

Thanks folks!

The bigger question is where did you get "accepted to teach?" Unless it's a bigger named school with legitimate international ties, then I'd be wary.

Sometimes people are a little too quick to jump on new posters. We forget the old teaching maxim of "there are no stupid questions...." but in this case I am not sure. This question is covered extensively just a few posts down in Does Police Clearance need to be Notarized in the US? The OP should also read the sticky above: Here's what you need to bring to work in VN It may be a little dated but is a good place to start.

Your phrasing of "got accepted to teach in Vietnam" sends up red flags. Do you mean you've gotten your visa? A job offer? You should be careful as there are several scams that play on charities and religious organizations which advertise Vietnam as an exclusive destination where you can help the uneducated and unwashed masses. This isn't true, and you'll likely be teaching in a mostly modern city.

Newcomers, we welcome you to VN and are glad you have come on this great site. In order to improve the quality of response and to create greater efficiency for yourself, posters and readers, two points are of great value to you:

1 - most newcomers ask questions that have been asked many times before. Just find a recent thread that has been created on your issue and then post there. It will move to the top of the list, and everyone will see it. All the previous relevant answers will be on display for everyone, and so it cuts down on clutter, makes topics easier to find and , it encourages knowledgeable posters to continue to post (rather than having to repeat what they have already said). In this case, there is a sticky on this topic, which is especially good.

2 - post as much relevant detail as possible. Newcomers constantly post questions without giving half the context needed in order for answers to be well targeted. If you are going to be teaching English, certainly you can string together a couple of paragraphs and put together a detailed discussion of the specifics of your situation. Given that most of these topics have been well covered, consider what is unique about yours that requires a different answer, rather than expecting people to write pages covering all the possibilities because you did not take the time to detail your particulars.

Thanks for your understanding and help.
