| Hey everyone, I'm currently teaching English in China, but was thinking about visiting Thailand either during the Spring Festival (some time in January/February) or over the summer (July, possibly into August.) I'd be open to just going on a vacation without worrying about jobs, but if there were some sort of summer camp which provided some free accommodations with fairly low hours in Bangkok, I'd also be interested in that. Are there any opportunities like this in Thailand? Also, what are the rates like for private tutoring there? |

January-February is the last 2 months of the school term so there isn't much in the way of "camps".
It is also the time where there are the highest number of back-packers trying to extend their time in the sun rather than return to winter back home.
Good luck but you'd be better off planning it as a vacation and if something does fall into your lap consider it a bonus.

How hard would you say it is to find private tutoring opportunities? That may be more up my alley. How much do those pay per hour? |

That would depend more on who you know and who knows you.
Right off the plane your chances are near "0" and any "private tutoring" you do find will pay in the 200-400 baht range. You will be no different than any of 10,000 other tourists looking to do the same thing for some extra cash to tide them over the winter.
After you make some connections and develop a reputation then 500-1500 baht per hour in within the realm of reason but that won't be happening in any short span of time. It isn't 1999 any more.

Hello maj0915,
Most jobs in Thailand are short term...my advice is put an advert in the Bangkok Post and/or nation and you might be offered a lucrative short term EFL gig as a private tutor. Also specify your salary and/or hourly tutoring wage requirements. Good luck and enjoy the amazing land of smiles!!!  |
