He's been MIA.

Any opinions about what happened to him?

Quite honestly, I'm kindof worried.

There are a ton of regulars that seem to be MIA lately. While I agree that Johnslat's absence is particularly unusual, I wouldn't worry too much about him. It is summertime and he is probably on vacation.

John's rather fond of camping and hiking, so I bet he's off on a jaunt through his beloved southwest. Either that or he and scot47 are on some super-secret mission to save the world.

Don't fret, Colleen -- any guy who does 1000+ push ups per day knows how to take care of himself. He'll turn up eventually (although things are a little dull around here without him).

The word is that Johnslat and Scot47 are working on a "Lethal Weapon"-type movie.

That should have been "EFL Weapon".

Dear Friends,
Gosh - I'm touched (but then, that's probably not news to most here). Sorry for the long hiatus; it's been a bad (as in busy and bothersome) two weeks in Santa Fe. All sorts of stuff, planned and unplanned, made my days so hectic that I've been AWOL from Dave's for a while. Among the planned: studying for 2 of the 3 New Mexico teacher certification exams: Basic Skills and Teacher Proficiency (Lord, I HATE algebra and geometry, but, oddly enough, the Basic Skills test seemed easier than the other one, which had so many questions with answers that made me ask myself - hmm, do they want me to choose based on "theory" or do they want "real-life answers". I usually went with "theory"). I still have to take the 3rd one - Content Area (Language Arts) in September, and I'm sure that'll be equally divorced from reality.
Among the unplanned, I was "rear-ended" (no jokes. please) while innocently sitting, waiting for a red light to change. Nothing too major - I'm fine, although my car won't be out of the shop for a few more days.
Ironic that I survived so long in the Kingdom, which has, bar none, the worst drivers in the universe, only to find I had an "appointment in Samarra" here in Santa Fe. But to give them their due, the drivers here
can often give those a Riyadh a run for their money.
You want more? OK, my computer went bananas about a week ago and, since few "computer docs" make house calls, I had to lug it around to various places before I finally found someone competent enough to fix it - that was yesterday. It SEEMS all right now, but who knows? Not me, that's for sure.
So, I'm back - but in just a few more days (starting Sunday, July 25th), I'll be among the missing again for a while. That's when I'll begin acting as coordinator for an Elderhostel tour of Santa Fe, including 2 trips to the opera ("Don Giovanni" - Mozart, of course - and "Agrippina" - Handel). On a "normal day" I'll be with my 50 (other) geezers from 7:30 am to about 8 pm. But, on the 2 opera nights, it'll run from 7:30 am to about 1 am).
So, I doubt I'll have much free-time until July 31st.
Now that's probably a lot more than most of you wanted/needed to know. But anyway, things are, more or less, normal here again - at least for a while.
Thanks for wondering.
Regards,
John

Geez, John, as my grandmother would ask, "Are you eating right?"

Dear guest of Japan,

"Are you eating right?"

Food for thought. But I don't think that's to blame. Why, with respect to the automoblile incident, I wasn't even on a crash diet.

Regards,
John

Good choice.
"Let the student pass anyway" works in Saudi, prison and the 'hood I hear, but isn't what you should circle on a government exam, unless the student has "special needs" as defined by the appropriate authority.
