If drinking large mugs of craft beer appeals to you (and of course it does. You're an English teacher in Japan), you have to get down to the Red Brick building site in Yokohama near Kannai station to attend Oktoberfest. You have until next Sunday.

Kampai! Prost! |

I might check it out.
The red brick warehouse is something I'm not familiar with. Years ago, I used to get into Yokohama for work but it was never really interesting. I think it's gotten a lot better in terms of food and drinking options over the last 15 years.
So what's your opinion of Chinatown? I thought the prices were high and the food just so-so. |

Nice but you have to pay the glass deposit, in case you break it.
I think it was 1000 yen per glass but you can get your money back.
Real glasses from Bavaria, and beer from Munich.
Ikebukuro has better Chinese food. |

Yeah, I sometimes go to the giant gyoza and ramen shop in front of Ikebukaro Station. I get the tan tan mien. Spicy. And a plate of giant gyoza. Do you recommend a particular Chinese restaurant? The gyoza shop I go to seems to be run by Chinese, but I wouldn't call it a Chinese restaurant.
So how does the 1,000 Yen deposit system work at Octoberfest? |

It works as I posted it.
Chinese people think the places in Ikebukuro are authentic. |

I'm slow.
So if the beer is 500円, you would hand over 1,500円.
Then, after you return the glass, you receive 1,000 yen back?
That's why I asked you to explain it. I have no idea how it works. |

Yes.
But if you want a second beer with the same glass you just keep the glass.
Pay for the beer in the same glass.
Once you don't want more beer, get your money back.
If you want Erdinger, for example, after another kind of beer, you get your deposit money back then pay for a new glass deposit, which I think is 1000 yen.
There is music and food. I do recommend it. Aka Renga is nice.
Nearby there is the cruise ship. You can have dinner and go around the bay.
Really nice in the summer.

Okay, thanks. Then that's not so bad. |

Different beer calls for different glasses.
The goal is to make it a real German experience.
I think pilsner is in a mug and the hefeweisen is in a tall glass.
If you just drink the pilsner you just pay the deposit once, but
pay for the refills of course.
If you want to try different beer, then you keep paying the deposit but get the money back.
The glasses are authentic. |

Thank you for the details.
Are you going to attend this year?
I might, but I'm not sure yet. |

No time.
I am going to move.
The landlord wants to sell his property.
Moving is cheaper this time of the year. |
