To return to topic - any news? rumours?

At the HCT where I currently work, when we finished the past academic year (completing our one year-renewable contracts), a few people tried to transfer to other employers/colleges in the same city or elsewhere in Oman. Every single one of them was denied, and had to leave the country.

Looks like the two-year ban is set in stone, for now. Either stay with the same employer year after year, or leave the Sultanate for two years before returning.

I heard the same from a teacher who was just trying to transfer Colleges internally within CAS but was refused permission on the 2 year rule grounds.

I thought internal transfers under the same sponsorship would be fine but they are really playing hardball.

That sounds like an employer decision. If you move to another branch, you don't get a new labor card, do you?

Could be right but I heard about it again just last night. Don't think the residence card would have to be changed but you never know. Interesting that TATI are still advertising and the semester started weeks ago.

Or maybe because the pay is cr*p? Only 8.65 OMR p.h based on 160 hours pcm for a 40 hour working week generally in a dump with low level students. Not worth getting out of bed for....

Definitely not a new labor card, the Min of Manpower would never add more work than necessary for themselves or the often hapless recruiters.

If they are refusing to move people, it is because they can't / won't / unsure how to. Maybe it's hardball or maybe it's just the teacher doesn't warrant any special favors - after all, it's not an obligation to grant any transfer requests.
