Hi guys,

I've just found out that I will be paying into as of September (new contract).

Is there an English website I can read regarding all this information you guys are chatting about?

For example there's a lot of 'supposedly' talk in here, so I would like to read over to see if I can clear it in my mind.

Also, I'm in Guangdong, so maybe it's being slowly implemented province by province?

Cheers,

My case is a bit confusing. I've been a part of the Social Insurance plan for 2 years. The first year the school implemented it after the semester started, and the foreign teachers all balked at having an additional 10% deducted from our pays which had not been mentioned in the contract - even though the school had been planning (unbeknownst to the FTs) to sign on for it for over a year. Some of the older teachers got really stroppy - fun times!

In the end the school agreed to pay the teacher's deductions also for that year, but made us all sign some additional form that when time came for a refund they would get their share back.

The second year the money was paid directly by the teachers.

So for me half the money paid into my social insurance plan has been paid by the school, and theoretically owed to them, and half has been paid by, and owed to me.

Makes me think (hope) they might be a little more proactive about actually arranging the refund when time comes to leave if they have their own vested financial interest.

Additionally to confuse things though at the end of this semester I'm likely moving from my current school (which is part of the social insurance plan) to another university in the neighborhood which hasn't signed their teachers on for it. I'm curious whether my school can claim the refund if I'm just moving across the road, or is it going to have to wait until time comes for me to take a vacation out of the country or something.

(*edit* I did ask the FAO this week and she claims one teacher moved from Jiangsu to Zhejiang and was able to get his refund. No idea about specifics such as required forms, timeframe etc. though.)

I don't know why you'd expect anyone who's left the country to post that they got their money back.....Maybe you can be the first to tell the tale?

So....for what it's worth, Toast who is a very *very* close friend did receive his reimbursement even though he never left China, or even town for that matter. The process in *his* experience was painless, although a little time consuming. FAO took the insurance card, sent it to the school finance department who did whatever, and arranged the reimbursement. No forms needed to be completed. Three months later a text was received from former FAO "Please come to my office to collect refund of Social Insurance Payment of 8,610rmb"....Toast was very happy since he'd only paid 5,500rmb into the plan. Toast's liver was not very happy with unnatural amounts of celebration brewskis.

I'm on my third year same school. A few weeks ago we go the dreaded handout from HR about the Social Tax.

School said no change to our income - they will pay everything.

Hmm I wonder what happens when it is time to leave and I wanna cash out...?

If there is no change to your income, that means they are paying above what you earn. Will you be entitled to this as it doesn't really come out of your pocket? It would be a nice little leaving-China bonus, wouldn't it?

Kev your comments imply logic and honesty. Both can be iffy in the middle kingdom.
