|
|
Hi Everyone,
I accepted a job in Queretaro, and now the challenge is getting there. Are there any Canadians here living in Qro? Does anyone know a good way to get to Qro by air. All the flights I can find fly into Houston and coming from Canada it usually has a 10 hour layover.
I know the bus from DF to Qro is cheap and quick, and there are more flights flying into DF, but that would add on either a bus/train trip to Toronto or a separate flight.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

That is often the case when flying into smaller airports, they just aren't going to be that convenient. I live in Zacatecas, and the one airport in the state is three hours away. There are only a couple of airlines with international flights (one of them only has flights to my most common destination twice a week), whereas in Mexico City there are that many flights to the same place in ONE HOUR. Your best bet is probably just to fly to Mexico City and take a bus from there unless you want to cool your heels for many hours in Dallas or Atlanta. |

You will find layovers less than 10 hours from Houston to Mexico City without having to zigzag across Canada or the USA, but don't book anything with less than 4 hours. You're going to need that time in Houston. More times than not you'll be lined up for several hours going through customs.
Don't show up at the last minute, make sure your shoes slide off easily and leave belts and fussy clothing in your suitcase to wear another time.
I actually like the bus rides from Mexico City. Bring a heavy sweater or a blanket ~ the temperature inside the bus is like a Canadian winter.

Hey, thanks for the info. I think that is the best bet-to take a bus. |

Agree with everyone here - fly into Mexico City, take a short bus to Queretaro. Maybe even visit the city if you have the time. |

We go through US immigration at the airport in Calgary and Edmonton. Luggage is checked through to your final destination. I've had no problems flying through Dallas or Houston with 2.5 hours layover. I'd never take a shorter layover anywhere.
I don't like Mexico DF airport and after flying AeroMexico from Tapachula to Mexico DF and then to Huatulco I swear the pilots fly like the taxi drivers drive. |

It's true, luggage is sent straight through to Mexico. But your body isn't. I think you've been very lucky. I usually was too, but after more than 9 years of flying between Calgary and Mexico four times each year and being caught with one very expensive missed connection, I'd rather not gamble.
Just my view.

PS I think DF airport is a breeze. Try Kuala Lumpur or New Delhi airports to compare. I don't have a problem with Mexican taxi drivers either ~ rather posh compared to city buses |

KL is fine. And no need to worry about getting robbed at the first red light after getting an "authorized" taxi either, unlike in DF |

I live in Queretaro (San Juan del Rio) and you can take flights either from DFW or Houston direct to Queretaro. If you fly into Mexico City, you can take the Primera Plus bus for $360 pesos directly to Queretaro bus station and then take a Taxi to where you need to go.
After picking up your luggage at Juarez International, you will need to go to the 2nd level (floor) to access the bus charters. Just take the first escalator and keep to the right side. It is about middle of the way through the airport. It is divided into International flights and Domestic. Ensure it is the Primera Plus bus (gold color). The buses are located back on the first floor and you will be scanned and frisked again before getting on the bus. It´s about 2.5 hours from for the trip up to QRO. Buses are good with wifi and personal movies, shows to watch as well as a box lunch they give you. And Yes they are always cold so bring warm clothes. I´ve made the trip numerous times and it´s pretty simple.
Weather here in QRO has been 50´s in the morning with mostly sunny skies during the day and around 70. Winds picked up today so dress accordingly. Have fun and if you need any extra info just pm me.
