That's whaddumtryntatellya, mate ... "standards" of this nature are purely subjective and relative to the individual, in terms of what an individual should find acceptable or not, and dependent on a wide variety of factors ... so again, my best advice to you, with sincerity: get over yourself. |

Okay, I think I get it now. It's all about you. No-one else matters on their own terms, only in how they compare with you (according to your "standards").
You're a big turd in a small, narcissistic bowl. Congratulations. |

| The other main elements are as direshark says, teaching hours (max 20 but hopefully 16-1Cool, accom on campus and airfare allowance of say 10K. Don't know how the 'cool' emoticon crept in. I can't seem to edit it out. The figure is 16-18 contact hours. |
I think an 8 followed by a parentheses will make the "cool" emoticon. Let's try it: Next time leave a space between the two characters: 8 ) |

How do you spend 36,000+ yuan on a 10 day vacation to Kota Kinabulu? Just curious. |

haha good question!
Actually I spent 3 weeks in Thailand and 1 week in Beijing over the summer. Used up the vacation fund up-to-date for the summer.
Didn't go anywhere for the one week holiday a few weeks ago.
So now I am using just Oct, Nov, and Dec for the vacation fund.
Figure about $1500 usd for the fund.
Airfare from Shanghai for 2 was about $500 r/t ( Malaysia Airlines special flight direct from Pvg to BKI). Hotel is $50 a night. The rest goes for trips, diving, food and whatever else a guy and his Chinese gf can do in KK.
I figure why not... |

How does your gf handle working and vacation? My gf is going to quit her job (again) to go to vietnam for a month this winter. Not sure how sustainable that is in the long run. She basically has to take shit jobs to do that.
5,000rmb is enough but you can really live on 10k+. Plus save a little for retirement. If I can get into the 15k+ per month club and maintain my winter and summer vacation I will be a very happy man. Money isn't everything but it sure helps. |

Jm I'm at the stage where I make a decent salary and feel the need to exit China when I have a decent time frame to go on a vacation.
Originally I was planning on going to the USA for 10-11 days at Christmas but the getting over the jet lag issue is hard. I'm like a zombie for the first week and just wanna sleep. It's a total waste for 2 weeks so I hope to do it at the Spring Festival time.
I've come to the conclusion that vacations to SE Asia are a great thing - and often inexpensive.
Vietnam and Thailand can be done relatively cheaply in most aspects. I don't have to live in 4-5 star hotels (although on some trips doing it for a few days is no doubt high on the hog living ).
A ten day trip for 2 might come to $2000 usd. That's ok. Borneo has some cool things to do - even though many of the one day trips are expensive.
I manage to save much of my salary anyway. Some days I figure to hell with it - just enjoy the day F- tomorrow... |

Yeah. Spent a month in Thailand last summer and will spend a month in Vietnam this winter. Was cheap but had a chunk of money stolen on a night bus and crashed a scooter...that made it expensive. Without those events maybe $2k. We did it cheap but not backpacker style. Hotels with aircon and mostly street food. Did a lot of stuff though. Spending a couple nights with the hill tribes near Chiang Mai was priceless. Sleeping on the beach at ang thong marine park...nice.
If you can get a decent job in China it's a pretty nice home base. |

(sigh)
Okay, hotshot ...
Kota Kinabalu, eh? Wow ... knock yourself out.
My wife's hometown is Balikpapan (other side of Borneo), and we currently live in Medan (Sumatra), so KK is a very short hop over the jungle or sea from either direction (not that it's high on our list of places to go).
We've enjoyed some time in Penang, as well as traveling in Indonesia, twelve days in Thailand, ten days in Nepal, ten more in Cambodia and Vietnam ... all that in the last three years, plus paid for our wedding, live pretty well (though far from extravagantly) in the meantime, and still save money (it's all about the money, money, money ... right?) almost every month (usually about 5-600 USD, since my last raise, and apart from the two months each year with longer holidays in them).
Oh, yeah, forgot to mention, went back to the U.S. last summer for three weeks, my employer paid my ticket (both ways). Eight weeks from now? We'll be off to ... CHINA! Next summer? Back to the USA. From there? Wherever we want to go. "Sha-la-la, let's live for today."
Do you see? Do you start to get it now? You're REALLY nothing and nobody "special", no matter how much Mommy and Daddy told (tell?) you you were, so kindly stop putting other people down for no good reason. Why? Because doing so makes you appear to be: shallow, immature, and just a bit on the nasty side ... and you wouldn't want people thinking those kinds of things about you, would you?
What? You don't care? Well, that just ... uh ... shocks me, doesn't it?
A poster (the OP of this thread, which you've taken waaaaayy off-topic) asked for input about a job offer. You did "put in", I'll give you that, just not in any helpful or positive way.
For the last time:
PLEASE ... GET ... OVER ... YOUR ... SELF. |

And mine is that as I type this, you are actually sucking a bong in your Dad's garage in Cedar Rapids.
Ladies, and gentlemen, I rest my case. "Some problems are intractable", as a wise man once said. |

| Seriously, how do you guys deal with the problems associated with your gfs and wives travelling? My gf gets no vacation time and so has to quit her job. Almost no chance of getting a visa to America. How do you guys deal with those issues? |
