Make no mistake about my intentions - I don't care what the little pissants do when I am not in the room. My main concern is a CYA in case one does injure another.

The are like a pack of animals during the 15-25 minute break between classes. When I come in the room they are pretty much running amok.

My concern is not really for their welfare - I don't want to be the fall guy when one of them goes Columbine - intentionally or not -and I certainly don't approve of weapons in my presence during my teaching shift.

I had a half breed female student hold up her box cutter knife and tell me " Teacher I'm going to kill you". We all know in the west that girl would be in a psych ward or juvie jail for doing that. I told her not to do it again and discussed with her head teacher. The head teacher gave me her American father's phone number and told me to call him directly next time there is an issue.

I advise you picking up a set of this for your own safety!

On a serious note, I have a few young boys who haven't yet figured out its not appropriate to hit their teacher. Not little 4 year old students either, I just ignore those kids when they flail away at my leg, I don't deem to recognize their behavior. The older bigger ones, age 8 and up, they at times worry me with their lack of self-control.

I doubt one of them would ever get carried away to the point where they'd pull a knife and try to use it on me.

If they did though, I have a response already in store for them.

See here:

The one time I tried to hit my old man as a kid got me tossed over a sofa and my butt tore up with his belt for a good 20 to 30 licks. I reckon in China the kid would get let off the hook being he went at the laowai teacher and they really don't count as human beings and all that.

It would totally cost me my job but at that point I'd no longer give a damn.

Today a kid brandished a light saber he brought to school. It was actually pretty cool and he told me he paid 2000y for it from Taobao.

No, I didn't take it away - But I was prepared to trade him a 6 inch knife and pair of brass knuckles for it Very Happy

Stole a piece of pvc pipe from the neighbors and made a light saber and a bong in the same fell swoop.

Rich spoiled pissants who live off their parents money and have very little intelligence ( eg some of my students ).

On a positive note - it was a pretty good quality light saber - like one you might find in Brookstones in the mall ( assuming that place is still in business ).

Nice and heavy with thick glass and a great neon like light.

If the little pissant has it tomorrow I take some pics of it
