I will renew my visa soon and I am being asked to get the Taishoku Shomeisho (letter of release)... from my old employer.

I had a terrible experience and separation from my former employer. And told them off.

I am wondering, can they deny me this necessary document or stall so I have problems with my visa renewal?

Have any of you had any similar experiences in getting this document from an old employer? My feeling is, they must provide it but I just don't see it going well.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

You need this paper I remember having my visa renewal rejected and had to go back to get that exact paper from my previous employer. If they refuse to give it you call up immigration and they will call them and request the document. Whats the name of the company?

You don't need it. just tell immigration that they won't give you one, and give your company's contact info to them. I had the same thing happen. It was all OK.

did you get renewed without the paper? I was told to go back and get one and had to travel to immigration twice. This was about 15 years ago though so maybe things have changed.

Did they tell you when you submitted your paperwork that you'd need the document? Or did they send you the postcard and have you come in only to tell you that you needed this?

I just submitted my paperwork for renewal and didn't have the document. I totally forgot to ask my employer for it, and he ended up closing the school and moving away so now I'd have no way to get this from him. I wrote a letter explaining this and submitted it with my documents but hope it's ok :/
everything I hear makes it seem like ti's just up to the immigration officer and that there aren't really any strict rules in place…. Crying or Very sad

I think this is a legal obligation for your old company to fulfil

Yes, I remember getting it in the post, of course when you are there in person they never tell you what you need or check the documents properly, so every time I used to get a letter telling me what I needed. I think I posted the taishoku shomeisho back to them with the card, then about 2 weeks later they processed the visa and I drove there to collect it.
