I was wondering if anyone has experienced living in shared accommodations while working in KSA.

I imagine it would similar to college; no choice of roomate(s), little to no control over any aspect of your living circumstances, not what most people would chose if left to their own devices, and probably not even close to top of the range.

Also, considering your shelter would be connected to your employer, there could be a high probability for all sorts of shenanigans.

If anyone has any experience, good or bad, I would like to know about it.

Thanks.

Fair enough, looks like that is the prevailing thought.

Thanks!

Yasuke, Let me suggest that you try it and then report back. You seem very reluctant to take advice.

Yasuke.... by shared accommodation, do you mean leaving in an apartment with your own room, bathroom, but sharing the kitchen and living room? If this is the case, then NO.

Best to have your own apartment....

You need your own space to be able to shut off this world and try to recharge your batteries before the next class. Yes, things can be that tough over here. After a rough day, the last thing you want to find is that your flat mate has eaten your last cup of pudding!! Evil or Very Mad

If you can find a direct-hire position, the chances are better that you will not have to share a place. Crafty hiring companies will cram their teachers in places that are far away from your job site with apts. that are dirty/run-down in order to save money.

Unless he or she is your spouse or child, forget about it. Even then, it can be quite a strain in KSA. Take it from someone who has only lived alone a couple years out of nearly 60. In KSA, don't do it. Your options for being apart or even your options for being together are limited. Everything is limited.

If you have the option of taking company provided accommodation or accommodation allowance, it might be better to take the allowance. You could use the allowance to find your own place, and choose to live alone or share a unit with a flat mate of your choice.

Don't do it.

I shared a bathroom with someone that wasn't brought up with indoor plumbing. Was greeted most mornings with unflushed toilet.

In many cases the allowance will not cover housing and transportation costs of living in a single apartment without taking a chunk out of your primary salary. That is at least true in Riyadh. That has to be considered.

Most of the apartments that I have seen, and stayed in as well, had a single bathroom Very Happy Everybody here knows the type of plumbing that runs through the apartment close to the floor. Tell the company %^&@#*^$#@
