Is it possible to live/work in the CR long term if one has a starting salary of 20000 crowns gross? Is there an annual pay rise in the CR? I am not interested in Prague but have my eye on Plzen or Leberec.
I like the idea of working and settling in the Czech Republic. Do employers encourage teachers to stay long term with their schools and are there any teachers who have settled in the CR? The reason I ask is because I have been teaching abroad for many years and many counties and schools only offer short term possibilities/prospects and now I am 30 I really am looking for more. I really don't want to go back to the UK and Western Europe has rubbish contracts, pay and conditions.
Thanks

20,000 gross is fairly low, given that rents even in smaller towns are likely to be 8-10,000 monthly unless one wants to flat-share.
If you are going to be employed at a private language school, annual pay rises are hit-and-miss - you would have to talk about that with your prospective employer.
It is definitely possible to be live/work in the CR long-term, but one needs to move up to the better jobs to do this, mostly working directly for companies (not through a language school), or giving university/international school courses (often requires higher-level qualifications.
Sigma has been around for quite a long time in a smaller town (in Slovakia) - you might pm him.
Basically, one can start out at subsistence-level (20,000 gross would be that!!) and work their way into the few better jobs around via local reputation-building, local contacts, and some skills speaking Czech. |
