Why can't bilingual kids enter? You just score them differently/give everyone else a handicap, based on their English experience.

I say, let them compete head on and show both the kids and the parents what they're up against. Might motivate some to get a bit more serious about learning English.

Doubt it. It's "not fair", and no one wants to go up against any really competition here.

I really think we as teachers need to forget the idea that people are serious about English here. It's a rare few. I have met some, but as an ALT or at my eikaiwa, there were basically none.

That sounds like solid advice! Let's just stop caring or trying, along with everyone else! At least MEXT's stated goals are towards functional English, even if its methods leave a lot to be desired.

You're right. That sounded bad. I just have gotten tired of English being promoted, yet no progress being made. I have gotten a bit bitter

We all have those days! I hope today is better for you Smile

By keeping the long view in mind, perhaps it will become easier for us to overlook the daily disappointments?

Here's to hoping, eh?
