Hi all
Bog standard contract from Public Uni but question is about location. Is Zhongluotan an awful hole in the middle of nowhere? Is there stuff to do there ? (Shops,COFFEE,restaurants?) How good is it for public transportation ? (School claims their bus gets me there in 50 mins)
All info greatly appreciated guys. |

No Wiki article, as you probably know. I asked my Chinese colleague. All he can see is that it's a university town with lots of schools. He says there must be thousands of English teachers there, and at least 3,000 illegal African citizens in addition to many more legal ones. He's not criticizing; just saying it is so. He says down there in Guangzhou there must be plenty of foreign-friendly facilities such as bars, bookshops, Western food... That's all we got. |

My guy says it's not 50 minutes, but 25, but how would he know? He lives in China's Wyoming and Guangzhou is its Florida. Before he said that, I was going to surmise if they told you 50 minutes, it'll be more like 90 what with the vagaries of public transportation anywhere on Earth, the frikkin' weather and the time it takes you to wake up, put your pants on one leg at a time and walk to the bus stop. |

I have just returned from Zhongluotan - it is a hole. I occasionally do a couple of days out there, but I always return to the city at night, so to be fair I have never overnighted there but I pass thru many times. It takes an hour to downtown GZ, out there, where the colleges are (A bunch of them together) No western amenities - can't even buy fresh milk, the students always complain there is nothing to do. If you take the street bus to town the traffic can be brutal, maybe 2 hours, so, when I go there I take a private car. There are no other foreigners, and certainly no hordes of Africans around - unless they all hide when I am about. The place I go is down a country road, there are several other campuses further down, I presume yours may be there, I never stayed to explore. If that is true, it is a dire place to live. Maybe there is a golden centre to ZGT I have never seen, but what I have seen - uuugh |

I suppose my Chinese colleague must have meant the Africans are in Guangzhou generally, not in ZGT particularly. Yeah, they probably ship the Harbin ice palaces down there come April and people watch them melt. |
