Delta isn't a Masters degree but it can be counted towards a Masters degree. It's generally regarded as being worth 60 CAT points, i.e. one-third of a Masters and can be used to exempt yourself from designated courses.

However, not every UK university accepts credits toward an MA. For a list of unis that do, see "Exemptions and credits to DELTA holders on related MA level courses" (https://cambridgedelta.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/delta_exemptions/), which states the following as well:

Quote:
The DELTA on its own does not constitute an MA qualification but is considered to be at the same level, which makes holders eligible for exemptions, credits, and fast track options in a variety of UK based universities.

Anyway, the discussion of MAs is moot at this point since the OP hopes to get one of the better teaching positions in KSA with a BA in Ed + Delta. As suggested, that also should include post-Delta teaching experience, which likely increases his/her chances.

Dear nomad soul,

"Anyway, the discussion of MAs is moot at this point . . ."

Is it moot, or would it be academic? Very Happy

Only language schools - British Council, International House, etc. - have any real interest in job applicants with DELTA.

The Delta is not the same as a Masters in TESOL, but in the UK it is at the same level.

Ofqual, the exams regulator of the UK government, has confirmed that Cambridge ESOL's Delta qualification for teachers is at the same level as a Master's degree or a professional diploma in the European Union. This is a result of Delta being placed at level 7 of the UK government’s Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), making it the only English language teaching diploma currently included at this level.

Not true: I've seen oil company vacancies specifying the DELTA or the Trinity Licentiate Diploma in TESOL as the minimum qualification. Other employers, including British Aerospace and many universities, give preference to holders of these qualifications.

For those who think London is the capital of the Anglosphere, the DELTA may be significant (BC, Aerospace etc). Others may be a bit sceptical.

What follows are the questions you would likely hear from admin people in the US.

Delta? Isn't that an airline? Very Happy

Regards,
John

(Of course, they'd probably also think Celta is a basketball team.) Very Happy

The American view of DELTA is the same here in Canada. MA TESOL or you are working at Tim Hortons part-time (and even then).

It is our national coffee chain. I don't particularly enjoy the coffee, it is much too weak in taste, especially compared to the tar-like coffee in the ME (which I loved!). I will say though, it is a great place to hold informal ESL conversation circles and make ends meet (whether you are charging students or serving coffee behind the counter).

Uh, Harlem is in New York, while the Celtics basketball team is based in Boston, Massachusetts.

Anyway, in terms of the OP's plan, it's about how Saudi (not American or Canadian) employers might value the Delta along with his/her BA in Education. The OP will have to complete the Delta and apply for jobs to find out if it was worth it or not.

Uh, hence the wink, NS.

The Harlem Globetrotters featured in one of the many Hanna-Barbera cartoons screened in the UK back in the early '70s. I was also fond of Top Cat, The Banana Splits and Wacky Races. We only had a black and white TV in those days, so I was unable to enjoy them in glorious colour. Crying or Very sad
