Also, remember start date. My contract did not begin until Sep 12th or something, uni. I got my first pay around the 15th the following month.

That's interesting.
Has the pay date reverted to something more reasonable ie 5th or 10th or has it stayed at 15th?

Nope, but it does seem reasonable that I get paid after completing a month of work.

The last uni had the pay date as 'between the 25th and 30th of the month.' & that seemed ok to me because I've seen that before, phrased in many ways. I got paid OK.

The point is: as long as you have a date in your contract as pay day every month, you've got leverage, something to scream about to someone like your embassy (not that the embassy would do anything; but I'd guartantee that your school would get your pay to you. They hate foreign consulates peeping into their business. Plus it would look bad for your school). The end of the month is a good time to get paid.

Now mentioning 'this isn't the hiring season.' I'd agree, but because you're looking at the bottom of the barrel. What's left isn't so good. I say this with authority because I took a uni job in PEK because I'm 66 next month; felt this would be my last teaching contract in China. It was trouble from the minute I got there. I did get paid, but otherwise...plus they didn't get my visa & I left.

I'd recommend waiting until Feb. or whenever the posters here suggest (Jan., not sure now) Good luck.

Another old timer!
That's 25th to 30th of the month worked - right?
Best

It depends on the school and the reputation they have. I get paid on the 15th of the month. My pay is for the previous month. Not six weeks like one poster put it. I do not understand your friend's logic. I am sure there is something to it. But, I have never had a problem. I have heard the horror stories from places that have poor reputations. It is basically a crap shoot. You should be asking people on here about good recruiting companies, schools and training schools to work for. Then you can contact them to see if there is any positions available. I and very happy with my company. Yes, there have been some things happen in our company with other teachers. But, 100% of the time, it is because of the foreign teacher that caused the problem. Not the company. This is usually, but not always, the case with blacklisted schools that get reported on. A foreign teacher is going through a bad case of culture shock. Or, they just don't seem to let go of their western ways and the Chinese ways puts a negative attitude in them. Yes. There are bad places to work for in China. When you read a blacklisted school review, you need to read between the lines. And, you need to see if there are many negative reviews of the location. Or, just one, two or three.

Hello,

Non S, yes, the same month, and Nash, the reason I ask about unis is because my books are about ch unis. Also, I can't afford to get kicked again so I'm staying peacefully in another developing nation writing books. It's quite nice, being peaceful, saving money.
