Hello,
Can anyone point to texts/course materials related to petroleum English (or other branches related to the oil & gas industry)? I'm not in the KSA, but it is a high-demand subject here in the north of Alberta. |

There's "Career Paths" (http://www.careerpaths-esp.com/esp-catalogue).
I suggest you also post this thread on the North Africa forum; most of the ongoing discussions are by those who teach/taught oil workers. |

Oxford publish Oil and Gas and Pearson/Longman publish English for the Oil Industry.
These may well be utilised by a major employer in this field in the near future. |

The OUP books are much much better than that Garnet book Geranimo. |

I haven't used the OUP books, dragonpiwo, so I'm ill-placed to assess which of them is better than the other. You may well be right - for all I know.
The Garnet text is let down somewhat by the poor quality of its illustrations. Nevertheless, it wouldn't hurt a course designer to consider drawing upon more than one relevant course book, would it?
'Course' and 'course book' shouldn't be regarded as synonyms, should they?

It should be pointed out that although the Oil Industry is the source of KSA's wealth, most English teaching there is of General English. (TENOR - Teaching English for No Obvious Reason) |

Plus, the OP's students are ESL not EFL learners. |

Yes, the real north! It has been -25C for nearly a month now. Here, we have a sizable number of international students who require English in the context of the petroleum industry. They range from Arabic-speaking international students in degree programs to temporary foreign workers from the Philippines who work up in the rigs.
Thanks for the book suggestions. |

Longman is offering free access to a series of petroleum industry-related worksheets at Levels 1 & 2 to complement its "Technical English" coursebooks.
Worth checking out if you're teaching oil industry employees...
