Don't worry, ICEAT have got this...3 days later.

Dear Colleagues,
First off, thank you for the emails and for reaching out to ICEAT.
As your employer, ICEAT is concerned about the recent news coming out of Ar Rass and we are presently working closely with the college management to ensure that you are not affected.
We are happy to inform you that there is good communication between the Dean and the police, and ICEAT is committed to continue to support the local authorities in every way it can.
In terms of the threat, what the Dean informed everyone the other day is the reality of the situation. The recommendation is that all teachers be moved to one or two nearby buildings to make the police work easier. The company is currently exploring the possibility and we shall update you from time-to-time.
For those of you presently not in Ar Rass, our representatives inform us that they feel safe. The Dean too reiterated the same in the teachers' meeting. We're not trying to tell you that you shouldn't be worried as people deal with things differently. However, ICEAT will keep everyone posted as soon as we get the news.
Please be informed that the safety and well-being of employees is top priority for the company. While we do expect you to take the decision to continue to work at Ar Rass based on your own judgement, ICEAT will do all it can to be up to the task, and to meet the best of your expectations.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
for ICEAT,
General Manager |

Ok Mister "State the Obvious", I put up with all this crap because I have no other choice. If I was going to write a book about how the average person ended up over here, it would be titled, "Plan C. How My Big Mouth and Non-Conformist Ways Landed Me in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
Do you really think most of us want to be here?
Dysfunctional (and sometimes very capable) people come here. If another person ever tells you that he/she is over here because they wanted to experience the wonderful Arab culture, they are full of the brown stuff. I feel some of the "old timers" might want to disagree with my opinion, but deep down inside, they know that there is some truth in what I write. The expectation are those wanting to come over for purely religious reasons. If I was such a great university instructor, I would be teaching at a state university in the U.S. I know what my weakness are at this point in my life; the only good thing about getting older. Because I’m a little wiser, I have found a way to help compensate myself for making mistakes in my past professional life – a second chance if you will. My choices were limited, faced with having to take huge cuts in pay and being locked out of the writing positions that I would have been hired for five years prior. Teaching ESL has saved me. It is the best way to make the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time. KSA is the number one country in the world for making the most money in the ESL game. KSA is also the number one "hardship tour" in the world for ESL teachers - the reason it pays so well. After 14 years of teaching ESL in eight different countries, I know this is true. I'm trying to hang on for as long as I can.
We are here for the money and we have the strength to carry on.
BTW, I make a hell of a lot more than $45k a year – my take home pay after I’ve paid all my bills here and back home is more than 45K a year. I'm going to go home after all this, pay cash for a house and a car and spend a few months in the state of CO trying out the local produce while not having to worry about working for anybody else ever again. Every time this hard, hard place makes me want to quit, I think about that.
Instead of sending short troll-like blasts about how dumb we are and how smart you are, why not be thankful that you are not over here? I hope you don't screw up your life in such a way that you are forced to come here. Be happy and don't be bitter for us.
Now that someone has explained to you that we are not as stupid, foolhardy, and misguided as you have assumed, maybe you can cut us a little slack and get the “F” off your high horse. |

Not many winners come to KSA. Most people come here because they screwed up somehow. Certainly that was the case with me. BUT I made the best of it and.......you know KSA when you are sober can be okay ! |
