I don't know about you, but one item that I don't want to buy from China is meat. First, you can only imagine how bad their factory farms are in terms of cruelty and hygiene. And second, the Chinese have engaged in dishonest practices in the past like adding water to chicken to increase its weight.
Earlier this year, McDonalds Japan has its chicken scandal. It was sourcing its chicken from a factory near Shanghai that mixed rotten chicken with fresh chicken to produce chicken burgers and nuggets.
I am wondering if the convenience stores here will use Chinese chicken for this holiday season?
Anyway, this post is especially relevant for Americans as the U.S. is starting to import chicken from China. I think it would be a good idea to share this news article with friends and family back home. When they do their grocery shopping, they should ask the supermarket staff where its chicken comes from to make sure it's from a U.S. supplier. http://www.takepart.com/article/2014/11/08/chinese-chicken?cmpid=organic |

I buy as little as I can from China. I just don't trust their safety/quality control standards. That goes doubly for their foods. It is hard finding edamame for my wife here. As 99% of them are from China. Chestnuts as well.
With some foods though, if only parts are from China/elsewhere, do they have to put that on the label? The US FDA requires to list all countries of origin. |
