Hey all,
Been a while since I posted here. I'm getting back into Asia again and this time I learned that Couch Surfing can actually be used to meet up and be active (I love active sports and die without them). My friends in the Philippines had told me about it.
Have you used Couch Surfing for meet ups yourselves? Have you used another site for meeting up?
I'm definitely not going to make the mistake of sitting alone in China again (even though I befriended the local Chinese parkour community). I'll definitely be reaching out.
I'll be heading to Hong Kong so it will be easier to reach out. |

I'm not a member of couchsurfing.com but when I lived in NY one of my friends was a member and she threw a couch surfing party at her place once, which I attended. I would say it's definitely a good way to meet people. I didn't keep in touch with anyone I met because as I said I'm not a member, but there were people there who knew each other through the site so I'm guessing they probably stayed in touch. It was like a potluck so everyone brought a dish with them. I'd say throw your own party and see how it goes. |

I am all for participating in active sports, but I really doubt the seaworthiness of some of the couches I have slept on in members' abodes.
An acquaintance of mine, or friend of a friend, was using his mum's place as a hub for couch surfing. He was saying that he was doing it as something like "a service to the international community", but it was just to try and lay European backpackers. |

No, I just meant that a couch would typically not be the best tool for "cuttin' sick through gnarly waves" haha. |
