This was the e-mail that I received from the travel agent who is currently my only source of information regarding the progress of my application:

"Your documents are back from the Saudi Cultural Mission. They have not authenticated you degree. The school you obtained your degree from is not recognizes by the Saudi government and without the authentication the employment visa cannot be issued.

Please speak to your recruiter and let us know what you all decide.

Thank you"

Contact your visa agent and have him give you their number. A lot of good it will do you though. This is a good introduction to doing things Saudi style. They haughtily have a list of accredited schools that they reject, some from California State University like yours, while at the same time their education system has to be one of the worst of all times. Not a single one of their universities would stand a chance of getting the accreditation that your school has. Unfortunately your school doesn't meet their weird hot bag of gas standards. Although hot bag of gas as referred to in the West would still be quite a bit above them.

If this is your first time teaching abroad, it sounds like you might be licensed. I don't know, but if this is the case, try looking for real International Schools. There are places abroad that have the real variety, not likely Saudi Arabia though. There are recruiters that you can find that deal with international schools exclusively. They like five years experience teaching in K-12 or whatever its called elsewhere.

Consider that you've had a lucky escape and start your ESL journey someplace else.

Apparently, this is the "resolution," which doesn't mention the SACM's response nor how/if it got resolved:

Drive or fly to the Saudi Arabian Cultural mission.
Be as nice and genuine as you can and hope they take pity on you enough to look at your application a second time.

In my case the school is rather new in the Cal State system (the other Cal State Schools are definitely approved) and a very nice gentleman that works here has told me that he will check with his boss to get his approval before signing off on my degree.

Note: There is no accurate list online saying which schools will or will not be accepted as part of this list.
Good luck!

So, does that mean that they are recognizing your degree from CSUCI?

The outcome is that my degree was recognized.
Updated my first post with more detail.

Why would they ban California State Chico? It is a part of the CSU system accredited by California? Which Berkeley, Davis and UCLA belong to. Very very peculiar indeed.

Plumpy,
UCLA is not part of the Cal State System.
I was told that all the other Cal States where recognized and I assume that includes Chico but then again, you might want to check with your travel agent. I don't read Arabic well enough to understand what that list was all about but what ever it is, it's not an accurate listing. Also, I was told from several other sources that there was no definitive "blacklist" so when it comes down to it, if you aren't sure then you should ask your travel agent.

OP

Instead of returning to your original post and editing it, supposedly to show the outcome, why not a brief post to explain the outcome ??????

The reason I am editing the original post is that if someone is looking for a solution, they would probably want to know how it was resolved in the OP. It is much more convenient than searching through pages of posts to have a realistic possible plan at the beginning.

I will post what I updated on the original post here as well for your convenience.

I drove a long distance to Washington D.C./Virginia from where I live, somewhere on the east coast.

I spoke to the people I needed to speak to within the building across the street from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (you will have to go to the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission to get the address or your travel agent) and my degree was eventually recognized.

They do not answer their phones or respond to e-mails so I decided, since I already had so much invested in the medical tests and learning about their culture and language, I would take the risk and go see if it would make a difference to talk to them in person. I heard of another person doing this successfully as well (through private channels) and so I went for it. Everyone there was very nice.

I suspect few visa applicants run into this type of problem. (You didn't state 'what' the actual issue was, but I assume the SACM made an error versus your paperwork being incomplete.)

Anyway, people's experiences with the SACM vary. For example, my US degree was authenticated and returned to my door within 3 days of mailing it overnight to them. (I'd submitted it separately from the visa application, prior to getting my lab tests and everything else completed.) Plus, since I was direct hire, the SACM facilitated the processing of my visa packet and travel to KSA---no visa/travel agent involved. I never had problems reaching them via phone or email. In fact, they called me on the day of my departure to make sure I'd received my eticket.
