| I have never been as bored as I was in Saudi. For those who claim boredom is a personal failure that only affects the immature, you would probably enjoy prison too. |

As a general rule, if you post on this board, you are bored.
Saudi is a boring place - period. |

You've got to be kidding. In the 13 years abroad I drove for about a year. I sold my car when we moved to Seoul because I kept hitting things. A wall here a post there a parked car once rtc. My brothers and sister make fun of me and say I drive like a grandma. I keep my hands on ten and two. I still have a valid license both in the USA and Korea. But seriously not being able to drive would be a blessing. |

Dear Hatcher,
I'm sure you realize that there's a difference between "enjoying" and not being bored.
Since you refuse to believe that it's possible to live and work in Saudi without being bored, I think I'll chose to believe that you were never bored in Saudi.
After all, if you can deny my experience there, it seems only fair that I can deny yours.
Regards,
John |

| As far as I can tell everyone under the age of 50 suffers from ADHD. They need constant stimulation from external electronic sources ! |

AhHa!! There's the problem. The whole 10/2 thing has been debunked as not a good option... which I knew from the minute I started driving as it was an uncomfortable driving position. They have found that the optimum is 8/4... which was my natural hold from the first time I drove.

As they outlawed those wonderful one-grip balls on the steering wheel in NZ around when I got my first car, I picked up the open handed one-palm swivel style so I could smoke and drive at the same time, hence doubling my coolness factor. |

Yeah, and ya' kiwis could also pop the top off the beer bottle using the old style horn handle at the same time -- memories of a yank's hitching days on the South Island.
Fits right in with Saudi, where my students drive with their left hand holding the mobile phone to their ear and the right hand shifting the gears, while the left elbow steers the car. |

| I wish the Imams would do something useful. They could start by issuing Fatwahs against driving with a mobile phone turned on. Second they could ban wearing Thobes. |

"Second they could ban wearing Thobes"
And that conjured up a mental image that I could have done without: Saudi males walking around in their underwear - or worse.

Odd that you're irritated about a garment you were never required to wear; yet, many of us women don't complain about having to cover ourselves with an abaya and headscarf. |
