Brings me back to the litmus test mentioned above :
1. Do they provide decent health cover
2. Do they provide education

If not then think hard before signing up

The health cover is all inclusive. Even some chronic conditions are covered (ie renal problems)... The BC pay the inital 50's worth then expacare pay the rest.

Regarding schools, no, they don't pay. But I ask you, what places in KSA will pay for expat kids to go to a DECENT school. Schools such as the Continental, Jedda Prep, etc are like 26,000 SR per kid and up, and I'm not sure how many institutes would pay for ALL of your kids to go there. Maybe one or two, but three or four? That'll cost them around 100,000 SR on top of your housing, etc etc etc. If you know of any, let me know.

I know some places pay for schooling but they then dictate which schools the kids will attend. If these schools are miles from your house, or are simply crap then where's the benefit in that?

I agree, the BC should cough up some money. If they paid for at least one of mine to attend school it would help a great deal.

Tsk tsk Hamish. You know that things never last and that Mother Aerospace will be paid in cash from 1 Jan 07 rather than hugely inflated oil as they are being paid in now. If you visit their compounds and chat to the miseries you know that they are, have and will be gouging all the benefits.

Who's Hamish? What's going on here with thrifty and scot47? Did you guys cross paths sometime in the past? Settling old scores?

I suspect that many people on the Saudi board have crossed paths through the years. Laughing And Scot47, like many of the originals here, used to have another screen name... not exactly a secret.

I was called Thorfin, The Thrifty-slayer. Now I am in a better place, preparing for the transition to Valhalla.

If signing up for the British Counciul be aware that 'Upstairs, Downstairs' is what it is all about. As a classroom teacher you will be one of the menials, with inferior working conditions. The permanent staff - chiefly public school and Oxbridge - will be on quite different contracts !
