If you read through the comments to this post you will find some relevant information from an expert on the subject.

Hmm...life here in Merida Mexico has been too blissful. Been looking at coming back to the lunacy of China. And I must add Chinese girls are a lot more appealing than girls in the Yucatan.
Only criminal record I have is in China. Taxi driver wouldn't give me my change AFTER agreeing on the price so when I opened the front door to grab it, he punched me in the leg and sped off with door open. When I came out of the bar there were police waiting for me. He claims I punched him in the face. So we sat in the police station with him whining how much pain he was in until he could get the fine money for himself up to 500RMB. This was in the middle of nowhere so the police were all asking me for my phone number so they could show everyone they had a lao wai friend.
I had to sign something and fingerprint it. Really wish I had punched him hard in the face as I ended up paying for the privilege of not doing so. Anybody know if a criminal record in China also now prevents the granting of a Z-Visa now?

Well I turned in all of the paperwork today to the Consulate, now i'm freaking out.
I reviewed my paperwork (I made a copy before turning it in) and I actually forgot to fill out section 2.5! The contract is for 1 year but I didn't even put N/A or NONE or anything in the 2.5 box "Longest intended stay in China".
Will my Z-visa be denied? |
I doubt that will keep them from issuing you a visa. I may have left that field blank before myself. It's more relevant for other types of visas. Also, did you just hand it in and that was it, or did someone give it a thorough eye-balling as happened when I applied two or three different times? The consulate officers try to catch the obvious errors/wrong answers. Someone will probably just write in NA or 1 year or whatever. Or they could deny the application and make you fill it out again and come back at another time. No need to freak out. |

In my experiences of renewing the RP, I would not trust any company/school's word when it comes to documents. Until documents are physically in your possession, I would recommend NOT making any flight arrangements until the embassy stamps the visa in your passport. Due to trusting the company's word about everything being a smooth process, that was a load of bull.... I was sent to Hong Kong to renew and I spent 9 unnecessary days (I had to pay for all expenses) waiting for extra paperwork to be sent to me that should have been provided to me before going there.
Regardless of your location, I would also refrain from using any Visa service, unless you're too far from a Chinese Embassy. I've had my visa renewed 3 times and with all paperwork in hand, everything went smooth. Just remember when filling out documents to cross your t(s) and dot your i(s), and you should have no problems. Good luck!

Very true.
I've just applied for my Z-visa - with all the docs from my Uni - and with the CVASC - we don't have much choice in this matter in Canada, unless one lives close to an Embassy - and Ottawa is a fair hike from Hellifax.
Booking NOTHING until I have my passport back in my hand, with the Z-visa stamped - ONLY THEN WILL IT BE REAL.
I got tons of stuff to put into storage, packing, currency, visa card etc. etc.........nope - Not Until I have the Z-visa. End of. |

| The letter of invitation should have the contract duration stated in it. |
